Job summary
The Cheshire and Mersey Local Maternity System (LMS) is delighted to announce an exciting Clinical Fellowship in association with the Liverpool Women's Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

The Fellowship is a full-time management/preterm network development post under the supervision of Dr Jemma Egan, Clinical Lead for the C&M Preterm Birth Network. It includes a clinical component. Clinical supervision will be the responsibility of the RCOG College Tutors Dr Emily Fairclough/ Dr Ben Choo who will allocate a clinical educational supervisor.

Duration of the post: full-time 1-year fixed term from start date

Main duties of the job
The network development component of this post comprises liaising with clinical leads and preterm birth teams in the local units in Cheshire and Mersey to reduce variation and improve outcomes for women at risk of preterm birth. The key roles and outputs will include but not limited to:
  • Time dedicated to liaison with local teams, the LMNS and NW Neonatal Operational Delivery Network supporting the collation of outcomes across C&M
  • Work with the LMNS team to develop and support the LMS Preterm Birth network meetings and MDT
  • Work with the C&M PTB Network lead to ensure the Regional ODN/Maternity and UK preterm birth databases have oversight and include outcomes from the local units

The management component of this post comprises experience in applied research and clinical management in obstetrics, a research area in which Liverpool leads internationally.

The key roles and output:
  • To develop a working knowledge of the regulatory, governance and ethical frameworks relevant to clinical studies in obstetrics
  • Support the PTB lead and POG in quality improvement projects across the LMS
  • Support the delivery of the work plan of the LMS preterm birth network

We would expect the successful candidate to undertake the Advanced Professional Module in Clinical Research as a minimum. A suitably qualified and motivated candidate who wishes to undertake a higher research degree will be supported.

Job responsibilities
It is anticipated that the clinical component on the rota will be 2 days per week.

The candidate would be expected to participate in all PTB prevention clinic sessions (currently approximately 1.5/week) at Liverpool Womens Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and will have access to training in insertion of cervical cerclage.

The successful candidate will join the on call rota: ST3 7 (depending on experience), it is currently a full shift on call model estimated at a 1 in 14 rota.
