Job description

At Places for People, we hire People, not numbers! So, if you like the sound of one of our jobs, please apply - you could be just who we're looking for! Of course, experience and track record are important, but we're more interested in hiring someone that embodies our People Promises. That's someone that does the right thing, is enthusiastic and motivated to grow, believes in Community spirit, is respectful and enjoys their work. As the UK's leading Social Enterprise we're dedicated to creating inclusive and thriving Communities for both our Customers and Employees.

So, what are you waiting for? Join a community that cares about you!

More about your role

As a Technical Manager, you'll play a key role within our Regional Technical Team, reporting to the Senior Technical Manager. You'll be responsible for coordinating technical design information and managing the performance of external consultants, ensuring the accuracy and quality of strategies, specifications, and technical documentation across a range of residential developments.

You'll lead the technical approvals process, including Building Control, planning conditions, statutory approvals, warranties and utility agreements. You'll also oversee road and sewer adoptions, easements and other legal and technical agreements required to support project delivery.

Working across multiple live schemes, you'll be involved throughout the full development lifecycle, from pre-construction through to project completion and handover. Collaboration is central to the role, and you'll work closely with colleagues across Commercial, Construction and Sales to ensure high-quality technical information supports the successful delivery of every project.

Essential Criteria

  • Previous experience as a Technical Manager, Design Manager or similar technical role within housebuilding or residential development
  • Background in Engineering, Architecture or a related technical discipline
  • Experience delivering multi-tenure residential developments, including affordable housing, PRS and open market sale
  • Strong knowledge of Building Regulations, planning processes, technical approvals and CDM requirements
  • Full, clean UK driving licence

More about you

You'll have a strong technical background within housebuilding and experience managing the design and technical delivery of residential developments. We're particularly interested in candidates who have worked on multi-tenure schemes and can demonstrate successful coordination of technical information through all stages of the development process.

You'll have a solid understanding of different construction methods, current legislation and approval processes, alongside experience managing consultants and technical stakeholders. A proactive and collaborative approach is essential, as is a genuine passion for delivering high-quality homes and creating thriving communities. Experience working on larger or more complex residential developments would be advantageous.
