An exciting opportunity has arisen for the position of Education Mental Health Practitioner / Children's Wellbeing Practitioner / Mental Health Practitioner within our Mental Health Support Teams across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.

With 1 in 6 school children having a mental health problem the role delivers on the proposals outlined in the 2017 Government Green Paper 'Transforming Children & Young People's Mental Health,' providing early intervention and support and promoting whole school approaches to mental health wellbeing. Since 2020, the MHST offer has grown year on year through CAMHS STW and we currently have five teams serving a number of schools across the region.

The Teams sit within the 'getting help' aspect of the Thrive model and work closely with our CAMHS STW colleagues, who deliver specialist CAMHS and assessment services. You will be involved with supporting the implementation and development of the MHSTs, embedding our services within our designated schools. We work from clinic bases and schools across the region to ensure our service is accessible to as many children, young people and families as possible, so flexibility to travel is integral to this role.

We would welcome applications from candidates who are registered and qualified as an EMHP, CWP or with a core profession

Main duties of the job
  • You will work with your colleagues to deliver the three core functions of Mental Health Support Teams. You will hold a caseload, undertake assessments and offer brief evidence-based interventions for children and young people presenting with mild to moderate mental health needs. This will include one to one support and group work, with children, young people, parents and carers.
  • You will also work collaboratively with schools, young people and their families and offer advice, consultation and training to staff within schools and other agencies where appropriate.
  • There is scope for creativity to promote mental health and implement the Whole School Approach within school settings and the community. This will include opportunities for co-production with young people and parents and collaboration with school staff and partner agencies.

About us
Come and work with us at our award-winning NHS Trust, leading the way for trying new and better ways of working to help improve life for our local communities.

We have around 9,000 staff who provide physical and mental healthcare, support for people with learning disabilities, and adult social care across Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent, Shropshire, and Telford & Wrekin. We also run regional and national services, including help for new parents (perinatal care), eating disorders, forensic services, sexual health, and support for people in prison with mental health, drug, or alcohol problems.

We offer great career development for both clinical and non-clinical roles, with ongoing training and support to help you learn and grow.

We are 'United in our Uniqueness' and committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels welcome and can be themselves, no matter their background or identity. We want our staff to feel supported and valued, and we aim to build a team that reflects the communities we serve. Together, we can make sure every voice is heard, and every difference is respected.
