Job description

What is the job role?

Under the direction of the Facilities Manager - Housing provide an efficient service to tenants ensuring the housing and homeless housing provision is fit for purpose and carrying out routine and reactive repairs including painting and decoration of the accommodation, carpentry, grounds maintenance, cleaning, and the removal of refuse/ furniture and legionella/ H&S checks.

We are looking for a proactive and practical Facilities Maintenance Operative to help maintain a safe, clean and well-presented property portfolio. This is a varied, hands-on role where no two days are the same, combining planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, grounds maintenance and property compliance.

You will carry out a wide range of multi-skilled maintenance tasks, including basic plumbing, carpentry, decorating, flooring repairs, lock changes, PAT testing, and general building maintenance. You'll also be responsible for preparing rooms for new tenants, supporting office moves, maintaining external areas, carrying out compliance checks, and responding to emergency maintenance issues.

Using our CAFM system, you'll manage and update maintenance tasks while working across multiple sites using company vehicles. You'll liaise with contractors, support tenants and colleagues with property-related queries, and ensure all work is completed safely and in line with Health & Safety, COSHH and lone working procedures.

This role requires someone who is organised, customer-focused and comfortable working independently as well as part of a team. Flexibility is essential, as occasional out-of-hours work may be required to respond to urgent issues or support operational needs.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

You will be a proactive and dependable individual with experience in property maintenance or facilities management and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service.

You will have the ability to carry out a wide range of maintenance duties safely and effectively, work with minimal supervision and adapt to changing priorities. You will be comfortable using IT systems, maintaining accurate records and communicating clearly with colleagues, tenants and contractors.

You will understand the importance of health and safety, building security and compliance and be willing to undertake a varied role that includes maintenance, cleaning, grounds work, compliance checks and responding to reactive repairs.

A full UK driving licence is essential, as travel between sites forms part of the role. Whilst no formal qualifications are required, you must be able to demonstrate good literacy and numeracy skills.

This post works a rotating shift pattern of 7.00am–3.00pm and 10.00am–6.00pm and attracts a 10% shift allowance.
