Job summary
We are eagerly seeking to recruit a Highly Specialised Cardiac Physiologist, who has experience in working independently all areas of CRM. This exciting opportunity will allow the successful candidate to join our enthusiastic and expanding team of dedicated physiologists who are committed to continuous service improvement. The post holder will not only work in our current bradycardia and loop recorder follow up service, but will also contribute largely to the development of the complex device follow up service at The Alexandra Hospital, along with emergency and inpatient device checks.

This is a wonderful opportunity for a Physiologist who wishes to maintain their skills in CRM but also to be involved heavily in exciting service development and managerial tasks.

We are a countywide Cardiopulmonary Service with 3 sites, whilst the vacancy is based at Redditch, the post holder will also have opportunity if they wish to rotate across 3 sites to maintain their skills in device implants / cath lab.

We have 10 Consultant Cardiologists across 3 sites as part of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Trust, and our recent developments include a complex Electrophysiology service, Conduction system implant and follow up and Physiologist lead specialised echo clinics.

This is a fantastic time to join our brilliant team with plenty of structural and service developments set to take place for the Cardiology services.

Main duties of the job
  • To act in the lead role during simple and complex device follow up clinics, optimising devices and escalating findings where necessary.
  • To take part in service development, growing and expanding our CRM service to include complex device clinics.
  • To keep up to date with recent developments in Cardiac Rhythm management, including algorithms, programming recommendations and FSN actions
  • To liaise with other departments and support patients who have cardiac devices who are undergoing surgery, MRI scans and other procedures
  • To take responsibility to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and defibrillation on patients in an emergency situation.
  • To ensure patients are monitored appropriately during investigations and procedures. Awareness of adverse clinical conditions/clinical events occurring during the investigations and ensuring swift and appropriate action is taken to minimise life threatening or significant medical events.
  • To be familiar with current developments in the field of Cardiology.

Job description
Key Duties:

  • To prepare, hook up to patients, remove, download and analyse the recordings, then report without supervision 24-hour ambulatory ECG recorders, Blood pressure recorders and Cardiac event recorders, according to the departmental procedure and protocol.
  • To be familiar with current developments in the field of Cardiology.
  • To liaise with other departments and Companies regarding maintenance and repairs to existing equipment within the department.
  • To liaise in conjunction with the Head of Department, regarding evaluation of new clinical equipment.

General Duties:
Managerial:
  • To participate in formulating departmental policies, procedures and protocols in conjunction with the Head of Department.
  • To contribute in the development and expansion of the CRM service
  • To participate in department rota planning including sickness management
  • To support with the department staff PDR rotation
  • Undertake new initiatives to improve the patient clinical service. On the direction of the Head of Department take the lead role for service developments in agreed areas.
  • To work with the Head of department in setting, maintaining, monitoring and auditing quality and technical standards for within the department.

Training and Staff development:
  • To provide high technical expertise in teaching, training and supervising all grades of staff within the department and the trust.
  • To continue Professional Development and be responsible for keeping own skills updated, including BHRS/ IBHRE re-accreditation and Intermediate Life Support.
  • To undergo such training as is deemed necessary to maintain efficient discharge of duties.
  • To undertake all Trust mandatory training on an annual basis.
