Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 RN to join our Oncology Outpatient Clinics based at Charing Cross Hospital and Hammersmith Hospital.

The Oncology Outpatient Clinics see a wide variety of patients with different types of cancer, including gastrointestinal (upper and lower), breast, hepato-pancreatico-biliary, endocrine, gynaecological, lung, brain tumours and urological malignancies.

You will be responsible for working in the Oncology Outpatients Clinics within the Trust, ensuring the patients receive excellent care, undertake specialist nursing procedures and act as the patient’s advocate using advanced communication skills.

The role includes managing the smooth running of the clinics – including supporting with post-surgery wound care and administration of hormone injections. Plus working in the phlebotomy room – including venepuncture, cannulation and CVAD care.

The successful candidate must have an interest in Outpatient Nursing and working with patients who have cancer. They should be enthusiastic, hardworking, kind and compassionate and should be able to work well independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication skills are essential.

This is a full-time role working 37.5hours per week, Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. The post will cover both Charing Cross Hospital and Hammersmith Hospital Outpatient Oncology Clinic.

Main duties of the job

  • Should be flexible to work across two sites – Hammersmith Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital Oncology Outpatients Clinic
  • To develop the specialist skills and knowledge required within the oncology nursing field
  • To assist the Charge Nurse in leading the nursing team and deputise in their absence
  • To ensure effective operational management of outpatients clinics to ensure standards are monitored and maintained/improved
  • To respond to patients, relatives and carers concerns as they arise and take remedial action as required
