GREAT ORMOND STREET HOSPITAL FOR CHILDREN NHS FOUNDATION TRUST

Trust Fellows (ST1/2 Equivalent) in Paediatric Nephrology – Fixed Term contract commencing October 2026

GOSH is pleased to offer a post in Paediatric Nephrology for ST1/2 equivalent Fellows offering great experience in a well-supported environment. This post offers unique clinical experience with our specialist team, who care for complex patients.

This post is ideal for doctors with NHS experience, completing or having completed foundation or core training who wish to gain further specialist paediatric experience, as well as those wishing to pursue a career in paediatric nephrology. Successful candidates will be educationally supervised and given the opportunity to complete appropriate research projects, as well as attending postgraduate courses inside and outside the trust.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Duties

  • Share responsibility for patient care on Eagle Ward and respond to referrals from other wards and hospitals
  • Assess, clerk and provide ongoing management of children under the care of the Renal Unit
  • Present cases at ward rounds and clinical meetings, and work closely with the multidisciplinary team to deliver specialist renal care
  • Develop expertise in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of paediatric nephrology conditions, including renal failure, hypertension, nephrotic syndrome, vasculitis and renal transplantation
  • Participate in the Unit's teaching, research and academic programmes

Audit and Research

  • Participate in departmental audits and quality improvement activities
  • Support the development of clinical guidelines and service improvements
  • Contribute to clinical research projects relevant to paediatric nephrology and service delivery

Clinical Governance

  • Practice in accordance with GMC standards and Trust policies
  • Maintain high standards of patient care, safety and professional conduct
  • Work effectively within multidisciplinary teams and contribute to continuous service improvement

Professional and Personal Development

  • Engage in regular supervision, appraisal and educational activities
  • Develop specialist clinical, teaching, research or subspecialty interests in line with career goals
  • Take responsibility for ongoing professional development and training

Academic/Professional qualification/Training

Essential criteria
  • Primary medical qualification - MBBS or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration with Licence to Practice or IELTS Certificate with an overall score of or Occupational English Test (medicine version) with a minimum score of ‘B’ in each domain.
  • MRCP, MRCPCH or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Higher degree – MSc, MPhil related discipline

Experience/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Minimum 4 years experience at registrar level or equivalent in paediatrics
  • Experience of teaching and presenting
  • Experience of audit activities
  • Understanding of principles of clinical governance
Desirable criteria
  • Minimum 6 months experience in nephrology/renal
  • Published research in peer reviewed journals
