Job description
Job summary
The post holder provides skilled technical support within a defined service area, contributing to safe, efficient, and reliable service delivery. Operating with general supervision, they apply practical expertise and established technical procedures to complete routine and moderately complex tasks within their specialist remit. The role supports service continuity through accurate record keeping, issue resolution within defined parameters, and the effective maintenance of equipment, systems, or processes appropriate to the environment.

About us
The Key Medical Practice is owned and operated by Principal Medical Limited (PML), which works in partnership with the NHS to deliver primary care services in GP practices and community settings. Founded in 2004 as a not-for-profit organisation by local GPs, PML was established to enable healthcare professionals to develop and deliver innovative services at scale. Today, 70% of GP practices in Oxfordshire and 22% in Northamptonshire are associated with the Federation. PML is the largest GP Federation in Oxfordshire and South Northamptonshire, serving nearly 800,000 patients. We believe local providers are best placed to deliver high-quality, cost-effective care that meets community needs. With over 20 years of experience, PML has a strong track record of delivering NHS, ICB and Public Health services. Job responsibilities
Technical Task Delivery
  • Carry out routine and moderately complex technical tasks within defined procedures, following training and competency assessment.
  • Apply technical knowledge to operate equipment, systems, tools, or processes safely and efficiently.
  • Use judgement to resolve routine issues and escalate more complex problems appropriately.
  • Maintain accuracy and compliance when performing allocated tasks, ensuring safe and consistent service delivery.
Equipment, Systems & Process Support
  • Support the setup, operation, maintenance, or monitoring of technical systems, equipment, software, or stock (specific to clinical or non-clinical setting).
  • Complete routine checks, testing, or quality assurance activities as directed.
  • Identify basic faults or issues and take appropriate action within defined parameters, escalating when required.
  • Ensure work areas, equipment, and materials are maintained to required standards
Information Recording & Data Quality
  • Accurately record technical activities, data readings, inventory movements, system updates, or other required information.
  • Maintain documentation, logs, and records in line with organisational procedures, ensuring accuracy and traceability.
  • Identify inconsistent, incomplete, or unexpected data and report issues to senior colleagues
Communication & Customer/Service User Support
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues, service users, and stakeholders, providing routine technical information where appropriate.
  • Support users or team members by offering basic guidance, troubleshooting, or instruction within area of competence.
  • Escalate non-routine or complex enquiries to senior technicians or supervisors.
Operational Support & Service Efficiency
  • Contribute to daily workflow management by completing allocated tasks reliably and on time.
  • Support stock control, asset management, or supplies replenishment to maintain service continuity.
  • Follow health and safety, governance, infection control, or data security procedures relevant to the environment.
  • Assist with preparing work areas, materials, or equipment to support smooth operations

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, contributing to a positive, efficient, and safe working environment.

  • Ability to carry out technical tasks independently after training and competency assessment

  • Good communication skills and ability to explain routine information clearly

  • Competent in using relevant IT systems, digital tools, and technical equipment
  • Awareness of technical safety standards, equipment use, or system operation relevant to the service

Qualifications
Essential
  • Good general standard of education such as GCSEs or equivalent
  • Relevant technical training, certification, or competency-based learning for Pharmacy

  • Willingness to undertake further technical training and development
