Job description

This is your opportunity to join AXIS Capital – a trusted global provider of specialty lines insurance and reinsurance. We stand apart for our outstanding client service, intelligent risk taking and superior risk adjusted returns for our shareholders. We also proudly maintain an entrepreneurial, disciplined and ethical corporate culture. As a member of AXIS, you join a team that is among the best in the industry.

At AXIS, we believe that we are only as strong as our people. We strive to create an inclusive and welcoming culture where employees of all backgrounds and from all walks of life feel comfortable and empowered to be themselves. This means that we bring our whole selves to work.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to any protected characteristic, including age, color, disability, ethnicity, gender identity, marital status, national origin, pregnancy, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, veteran status, or any basis prohibited by the laws that govern its operations.

How This Role Contributes to Our Collective Success?

This is an opportunity to use data and analytics to make a meaningful difference to one of the most important decision-making areas at AXIS: Reserving. In this role, you will help the Reserving team turn complex data into clear, trusted insight so they can better understand trends, explain movements, and make confident decisions.

In this role, you will help us:

  • Make reserving decisions easier to understand by improving access to consistent, timely, and well-defined data.

  • Bring important trends to the surface, helping the team understand what is changing, why it matters, and where more analysis may be needed.

  • Reduce manual effort and improve the way reserving analysis is produced, shared, and used across the business.

You will help shape how reserving analytics evolves at AXIS, building practical insight capabilities that make it easier to understand portfolio movements, compare views across business areas, monitor key indicators, and support high-quality discussions with senior stakeholders.

You will work closely with colleagues across Reserving, Finance, Actuarial, Claims, Underwriting, and Data & Analytics to understand what the Reserving team needs and turn those needs into useful dashboards, datasets, self-service tools, and repeatable insight products. You will also partner with technical teams to make sure reserving data is trusted, accessible, clearly defined, and fit for decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Be a Trusted Partner to the Reserving Team

  • Build strong relationships with the Reserving team and the wider teams that use reserving information, taking time to understand their processes, challenges, priorities, and decision-making needs.

  • Help define the reserving analytics roadmap, making sure the work we prioritise delivers clear value for the Reserving team and the business.

Create Better Data Products and Insight Tools

  • Design and deliver dashboards, datasets, and self-service tools that give the Reserving team clearer views of loss development, claims experience, exposure changes, prior-year development, and other important indicators.

  • Replace static, manual reporting with more interactive insight solutions that help users explore trends, compare results, test assumptions, and identify areas for deeper review.

  • Help identify, explain and monitor reserve signals, including AvE, PYD, claims emergence, large loss activity, exposure/mix changes and reserve diagnostics.

Explore Modern Analytics and AI

  • Work with actuarial, data science, and AI colleagues to explore where modern analytics can support reserving analysis, scenario exploration, anomaly detection, and clearer explanation of key drivers.

  • Promote practical and responsible use of AI and analytics, with a focus on improving speed, transparency, and confidence while maintaining strong governance and actuarial judgement.

Inspire Through Insight

  • Create clear, intuitive visualizations that help colleagues understand reserving movements, emerging trends, portfolio changes, and areas of uncertainty.

  • Help improve how reserving insights are communicated so they are concise, consistent, and useful for actuarial, finance, management, and business discussions.

Set Standards for Excellence

  • Help define clear standards for reserving metrics, data definitions, reporting, reconciliation, and interpretation of key indicators.

  • Support high-quality, governed outputs that align with enterprise data standards, actuarial controls, and financial reporting needs.

Collaborate Across D&A

  • Collaborate with architecture, engineering, governance, finance, actuarial, claims, and underwriting colleagues so reserving needs are considered from the data foundation through to the final insight experience.

  • Look for opportunities to simplify processes, reduce manual data wrangling, and build reusable insight capabilities that teams can rely on over time.

You may also be asked to take on additional responsibilities aligned with the nature and scope of this role.

About You

Required Experience & Skills

  • Experience in data, analytics, actuarial, finance, or a related insurance or reinsurance role.

  • Experience helping to design, improve, or deliver data and analytics solutions for business users.

  • A deep understanding of insurance or reinsurance data, including how claims, policy, exposure, premium, underwriting, finance, and actuarial information can be used to support analysis.

  • The ability to lead through influence, work with technical teams, and bring people together around a shared outcome.

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to make complex data and analysis clear, practical, and actionable.

  • Experience creating dashboards, datasets, visualizations, or self-service tools that help business users understand performance, trends, and drivers.

  • Curiosity about AI and emerging technologies, and an interest in applying them to real business problems in a practical and responsible way.

  • Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Power BI, or similar platforms.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with reserving, actuarial, finance, claims, underwriting, or performance reporting teams.

  • Some knowledge of reserving processes, actuarial triangles, loss development, claims trends, or financial close reporting.

  • Hands-on experience with Power BI and other visualization platforms.

What Really Sets You Apart

  • You enjoy turning complex data into insight that people can trust, understand, and use.

  • You are naturally curious and like asking how analysis could be faster, clearer, more consistent, and more useful.

  • You are excited by the chance to help modernize reserving analytics at AXIS and build tools that improve confidence, transparency, and business understanding.

Role Factors

In this role, you will typically be required to:

  • Attend your local office at least three (3) days per week to meet and build relationships with colleagues and the wider business.
