Job summary
Applications are invited for the post of Salaried General Practitioner with a special interest in Urgent Care. This is a full or part-time position which includes evening and weekend work. Non-clinical personal development and teaching time will be included in the job plan.

The role will be to utilise and build on your skills as a General Practitioner. You will be supported in developing new skills in urgent care with the aim to establish a fully function Urgent Treatment Centre in the next few months. Prior experience in Emergency Medicine during your GP training is essential.

You will assess the undifferentiated presentation of both adult and paediatric patients. You will provide clinical advice to more junior members of the medical team & ACPs and support the EM Consultants and ED triage nurses.

Main duties of the job
Within ED
  • Maintain professional responsibility for patients coming to the ED by provision of safe, timely, high quality care to patients
  • Keep patients (and/or their carers if appropriate) informed about their condition and involve them in any decision-making about their treatment
  • Undertake different roles within the department as required
  • Be responsible for the keeping of records and the provision of reports, the proper delegation of tasks and maintaining skills and knowledge
  • Provide clinical leadership and supervision of junior medical staff
  • Participate in teaching programs within the department
  • Maintain professional standards and comply in particular with the GMC's guidance on 'Good Medical Practice' as amended or substituted from time to time

Clinical Governance
  • Be proactive in the Clinical Governance agenda for the department. This includes participation in audit and quality improvement projects, guidelines/pathways, professional development, appraisal and risk management as well as attending Clinical Governance meetings

Personal Development
  • Maintain the Trusts PRIDE Values
  • Participate in Continuing Professional Development and appraisal
  • To undergo regular revalidation as set out by the GMC

Qualifications
Essential
  • Full GMC Registration
  • ALS provider or equivalent

Desirable
  • Instructor status in Advanced life support courses
  • Postgraduate diploma / degree
  • APLS/ATLS provider or equivalent

Leadership
Essential

  • Demonstrate ability to: - Lead and motivate staff - Act as a role model by maintaining high standards of performance and behaviour - Direct and motivate in high-pressure environment - Organise self and others - Ability to prioritise workload

  • Specific training in leadership and management skills
  • Experience or specific training in leadership

Experience
Essential
  • A minimum of 4 years of postgraduate training or equivalent experience
  • On the UK Specialist Register for General Practice or within 6 months of being so

  • Experience in Paediatric Emergency
  • Experience working within the NHS

  • Commitment to teaching and training of undergraduates and resident doctors
  • Participation in audit projects
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development
