Job description

Who are OnCommerce?

OnCommerce is a global selling platform that powers a growing network of retail channels, including:

  • OnBuy - The only marketplace in the world to give customers instant Cashback on everything
  • easyShop - An all-new marketplace created in collaboration with the easy® family of brands
  • Comet - The iconic UK tech brand making its return later this year

OnCommerce is growing fast, launching new brands and scaling to power the future of ecommerce.

Be Part of the Story

OnCommerce is constantly evolving. Everyone here plays a hands-on role in shaping what comes next, building brands that make an impact across global markets. There’s no red tape or rigid corporate structure; just smart people taking ownership and figuring things out as we build something big together. The pace is fast, priorities shift, things aren’t always perfectly set up, and you’ll often need to get stuck in and solve problems. But if you thrive in that kind of environment, you’ll have real influence, real ownership, and the chance to grow with a rapidly scaling business.

The Role

The Principal Product Manager - eCommerce owns the buyer side of OnBuy, EasyShop and Comet. This is a direct-report-to-CEO role with no direct reports. It is not a people-management role, not a corporate CX role, and not a theoretical product strategy role. It is a one-person commercial product function built for pace, ownership and measurable delivery.

The role is accountable for identifying, prioritising and delivering the buyer-side initiatives that materially improve how buyers search, find, choose, basket, checkout and buy across our businesses.

This role owns the WHAT and the WHY for the buyer side. Technology owns the HOW. The successful candidate must be strong enough to define the buyer roadmap, make commercial calls, work with Product Design and Technology, and drive delivery without needing a team underneath them.

You’ll be working alongside the Head of Seller Growth and the Head of Brand and Product Experience. These three roles form the entire Product function. Together they provide the product direction for the business; Technology then delivers the technical solution.

Key Responsibilities

Own the Buyer Side of OnBuy, EasyShop and Comet

  • Take responsibility for the buyer roadmap and ensure it is focused on the highest-impact commercial opportunities, not low-value activity.
  • Own the buyer-side commercial product agenda across OnBuy, EasyShop and Comet.
  • Act as the clear owner of buyer problems, buyer opportunities, buyer propositions and buyer-side performance improvements.
  • Lead all buyer-related areas with support from the wider Product function: Head of Seller Growth and Head of Brand and Product Experience.
  • Operate without a team and win through clarity, evidence, commercial judgement, influence and execution.

Own the Buyer Journey from Discovery to Purchase

  • Identify and improve the critical points in the buying journey, including search, browse, sorting, filtering, product discovery, PDPs, basket, checkout, payment, trust, app, web, repeat purchase and retention.
  • Understand how buyers shop online and where the biggest friction, confidence gaps and commercial opportunities sit.
  • Use ecommerce and marketplace experience to decide where the business should focus first to move conversion, revenue and buyer behaviour.
  • Drive improvements that make buyers buy more often, more easily and with greater confidence.

Turn Targets into Product Delivery

  • Take clear targets set by the CEO or Leadership Team, such as £100k in new monthly revenue by the end of the quarter or a 3% conversion-rate increase by the end of the quarter.
  • Rapidly assess the available routes to the number, including quick wins, medium-term improvements and bigger strategic product plays.
  • Present a practical short, medium and longer-term plan that explains what to build, why it matters, what number it should move and how success will be measured.
  • Work with Product Design and Technology to get the right initiatives designed, prioritised and delivered at pace.

Deliver Leaps, Not Corporate Incrementalism

  • You will already have a playbook, and know what needs improving at OnBuy, you will be experienced enough to see where you should be playing from day one.
  • Avoid weeks of over-analysis, over-design or product theatre when a faster commercial test or launch would create more learning and more impact.
  • Find and push the buyer-side initiatives that can create meaningful step-change for the business.
  • Take calculated risks where the upside is material and the downside is controlled.
  • Kill weak ideas quickly, scale what works, and keep the buyer roadmap focused on target-moving outcomes.

Build Fast, Clear Commercial Cases

  • For each major initiative, explain the buyer problem, the commercial opportunity, the baseline, the target metric, the expected impact, the delivery route, the risk and the fastest sensible version to launch.
  • Use data to make better decisions, not to slow the business down.
  • Be strong enough with numbers to prioritise properly and challenge ideas that sound good but will not move the target metric.
  • Translate buyer insight and commercial need into clear product direction for Design and Technology.

Work Productively with Technology

  • Define what should be built and why it matters commercially.
  • Work with Technology on how it should be delivered, the trade-offs, sequencing and delivery route.
  • Keep momentum high without trying to become the engineering owner.
  • Challenge assumptions, make trade-offs and maintain pressure on delivery of the buyer-side roadmap.

Requirements

What You Bring

  • Deep ecommerce, marketplace, retail technology, app commerce or digital shopping experience.
  • Strong understanding of search, sort, browse, product discovery, PDPs, basket, checkout, payments, buyer trust, web and app buying behaviour.
  • A proven record of personally delivering buyer-facing product improvements that moved commercial metrics.
  • Strong commercial judgement and the ability to connect product decisions to revenue, conversion, retention and buyer behaviour.
  • A high bias for action and the ability to make good decisions with incomplete information.
  • Comfort taking calculated risks to create step-change improvement rather than hiding behind minor optimisation.
  • Strong numerical ability and confidence working with baselines, targets, experiments, funnel metrics and outcome measurement.
  • Ability to work directly with CEOs, leadership teams, Product Design and Technology without needing a large team or heavy structure.
  • A scale-up mindset: pace, resilience, ownership, practicality and delivery over theatre.

What This Role Is Not

This role is for someone who delivers through ownership, judgement and execution rather than hierarchy, process or extensive analysis. It is not a people-management position, a traditional customer experience role or a research-led journey mapping function. Success will not come from managing stakeholders, building large teams or creating complex frameworks before taking action. Instead, the role requires someone who is comfortable making informed decisions with imperfect information, moving quickly, taking calculated risks and focusing relentlessly on commercial outcomes. It is designed for an individual who can turn opportunities into action and measurable results, where success is defined by impact on buyer performance rather than presentations, processes or meetings.
