Science Technician Role in an Outstanding Secondary School

An Outstanding Secondary School in Coventry is seeking to appoint a skilled and enthusiastic Science Technician to join its successful Science department. About the Role

The successful candidate will provide essential technical support to the Science department, ensuring that practical lessons are well prepared, safe, and engaging for students across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5.

Working closely with Science teachers and the wider support team, you will prepare equipment and materials for experiments, maintain laboratory resources, ensure health and safety procedures are followed, and support the smooth running of practical lessons.

This is an ideal opportunity for an organised and detail-focused individual who enjoys working in an educational environment and wants to play a key role in supporting high-quality Science teaching.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare equipment, chemicals, and resources for practical lessons

  • Support teachers during demonstrations and experiments

  • Maintain and organise laboratories and equipment

  • Ensure health and safety procedures are followed at all times

  • Manage stock levels and order scientific supplies when required

  • Maintain accurate records of equipment and resources

  • Carry out routine checks and basic maintenance of laboratory equipment

  • Support students and staff with practical Science activities

Candidate Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience working as a Science Technician or in a laboratory environment

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail

  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures within laboratories

  • Ability to manage resources and prioritise tasks effectively

  • A proactive and reliable approach to work

Desirable

  • Experience working within a school or educational setting

  • Knowledge of COSHH and CLEAPSS guidance

  • Relevant scientific qualifications

  • Experience supporting practical lessons across KS3–KS5
