Job description
Job summary
Due to service expansion and redesign, an exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced radiographers to work predominantly in CT and based at South Tyneside District Hospital, although cross site working is actively encouraged.

South Tyneside District Hospital has recently installed a 128 slice Siemens go.Top, and also has a 64 slice Siemens go.All. Both are used for a range of in-patient and out-patient CT examinations, including biopsies, colonography studies and cardiac investigations. Additionally, the department has 4 dedicated X-ray rooms, 2 fluoroscopy and interventional rooms, and a peripheral site providing plain film imaging. The team at South Tyneside work across modalities during the normal working day, however they are committed to maintaining the CT service 24/7.

Sunderland Royal Hospital has undergone an exciting redevelopment of the Emergency Department, to provide a cutting-edge environment for patient care, diagnosis and treatment. Within the Diagnostic Hub of the Emergency Department is a state of the art Canon Genesis CT scanner, this 320 slice scanner allows for rapid diagnosis for ED and acutely unwell patients. There are two additional Canon scanners within Radiology that are used for an extensive range of in-patient and out-patient CT examinations, including biopsies, percutaneous cryotherapy, colonography studies and cardiac investigations. The team at Sunderland is dedicated to CT only

Main duties of the job
We are seeking those candidates with post graduate radiography experience, including some time in CT, to apply. We will consider a training post for a suitable candidate with sufficient knowledge of the modality. Additionally, the post holder will be expected to fulfil all aspects of the role of a CT radiographer, including authorisation of scans under instruction, IV cannulation, working unsupervised, and training and supporting colleagues and student radiographers.

A shift review has recently been implemented on the South Tyneside site and full provision of CT examination is now performed 24/7 cover on both sites. In addition, we also perform specialist examinations and CT colons, cardiac imaging and biopsies on both sites

You will be expected to work as part of the wider radiology team at South Tyneside District Hospital, including in plain film and theatres, however your commitment will be to the CT service. The CT team work a shift pattern including long days, weekends (long days) and nights. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in this rota.

There is scope for cross-site working with the dedicated CT team at Sunderland Royal Hospital. Both sites have forward thinking, dynamic teams who offer experience and support. We strive to offer professional development opportunities; recent examples include the Postgraduate Certificate in Computed Tomography, Postgraduate Certificate in Forensic Imaging and CT Colon training courses.
