About the Radiotherapy Service
Based at the internationally renowned St Bartholomew’s Hospital in the heart of the City of London, our radiotherapy department offers a dynamic and forward-thinking environment where you’ll have the opportunity to work with advanced techniques and the latest innovations in cancer treatment.

Our current equipment includes:

·Five Varian TrueBeam linacs (two with 6DoF couch, with an ongoing fleet upgrade to Hypersight, RapidArc Dynamic and SGRT planned throughout 2026).

·XStrahl orthovoltage, Bravos HDR and Papillion contact brachytherapy intergraded onto the Radiotherapy ARIA network.

·Siemens Somatom Confidence CT for pre-treatment imaging and Varian Eclipse TPS for treatment planning.

We deliver a wide range of advanced techniques, including IMRT, IGRT, TBI, DIBH, SABR, ART, stereotactic radiosurgery (HyperArc) and gynaecological brachytherapy.

The Role
We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Senior Therapeutic Radiographer to join our team. This is a rotational, fixed term - 12 month, post covering all areas of the department, including pre-treatment imaging, treatment delivery and brachytherapy.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • HCPC registration as a Therapeutic Radiographer
  • BSc (Hons) in Therapy Radiography
  • Awareness of HCPC standards of conduct

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of post graduate study
  • Clinical updates

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Post registration experience of working in a Radiotherapy department on the treatment units and pretreatment.
  • Experience of complex techniques Competent in standard simple techniques and able to accept IR(ME)R responsibility
  • Experience with IGRT
  • Experience of record and verification systems, data downloads, data entries, data checks
  • Experience of communicating with anxious and stressed patients and relatives regarding treatment issues

Desirable criteria

  • Previous senior experience.
  • Undertaken some sort of presentation since university, e.g. training or update presentation to colleagues
  • Aria/Varian equipment experience.
  • Experience of advanced techniques e.g. SABR, SRS, DIBH, TBI etc
  • Ability to critically evaluate CBCT images.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Understand the optimisation of patient treatments
  • Core knowledge of a range of radiotherapy equipment and techniques together with the principles underlying them. Understanding of Ionising Radiation Regulations and responsibilities relating to own professional practice
  • Knowledge of departmental and Trust values and behaviours

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of research and trials.
  • Awareness of governance and its importance in maintaining safe practice.

Skills

Essential criteria

  • Able to concentrate and keep focused with interruptions from other staff, patients and relatives
  • Good spatial and hand eye coordination as required to manoeuvre machinery, patient and equipment avoiding collision and resulting in proper alignment
  • Ability to work well within and lead a team when required.
  • Ability to remain calm in a potentially stressful environment
  • Self motivated

Other

Essential criteria

  • Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate with colleagues and patients in an informed and professional way using appropriate language.

Desirable criteria

  • Supervision and guidance of other Radiographers, undergraduate students, multidisciplinary visitors, within area of work or responsibility

This role is subject to UK immigration requirements. Where sponsorship is required, applicants must meet the eligibility criteria for a Skilled Worker visa in accordance with current UK Visas and Immigration rules, including any salary, qualification, and role-specific requirements applicable at the time of appointment. Candidates who require sponsorship will only be considered where the post is eligible and where all sponsorship criteria can be met. Evidence of the right to work in the UK will be required before appointment. Please note that for roles employed under Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions, the High-Cost Area Supplement (HCAS) is not included when calculating the basic salary for the purposes of sponsorship.
