We are looking to appoint a post-CCT Clinical Fellows in Lower Limb Orthopaedic Surgery.


Bart’s Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the UK and offers comprehensive service covering the full range of Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery and has a long and rich heritage of innovation and training in orthopaedics and trauma.


The post CCT arthroplasty fellowship position is for 12 months, working across our network of hospitals (The Royal London Hospital, Bart’s Health Orthopaedic Centre and Whipps Cross Hospital). Our team treat the full range of hip and knee conditions allowing us to customize the fellowships to a degree in order to provide an optimal experience suited to the successful applicant’s needs. The fellowship provide solid grounding in primary hip and knee arthroplasty as well as exposure to complex revision surgery including; peri-prosthetic fracture management, multi-stage revision and massive endo-prosthetic replacement. There is also scope for training in other aspects of hip and knee surgery including ligament reconstruction and hip arthroscopy.

Main duties of the job

The positions provides a mixture of supervised and independent practice to prepare the fellows for independent consultant practice with a specialist interest in hip and knee surgery furthermore; we offer the opportunity to participate in consultant level on-call at Whipps Cross Hospital. The fellows are integral members of the team involved in day to day care of patient in clinics, theatre and on the wards.


The successful applicant(s) will work closely with all the consultants in the department, Mr Millington will act as the educational supervisor and the whole team will assist in mentoring. The fellowship has an excellent record of helping the applicants directly move on to substantive consultant posts.

Our orthopaedic academic unit has a strong track record of involvement in clinical trials and research, the fellows are strongly encouraged to actively participate in research opportunities. In addition, the fellows are expected to complete and audit or quality improvement project during their year.
We are delighted to accept fellows from across the UK and internationally.


You must hold full registration with the GMC and be post CCT or within 3 months of obtaining CCT. A special interest in lower limb arthroplasty is essential, previous fellowship experience is desirable.

Essential criteria

  • Completed training in Trauma and Orthopaedics (e.g. post-CCT)
  • Teaching undergraduates and postgraduates

Desirable criteria

  • Experience at consultant level working in a major trauma centre
  • Fellowship training in Arthroplasty Surgery

  • Engage fully with relevant governance processes.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Full GMC Registration with current licence to practice
  • The candidate should be on the GMC specialist register or within 6-months of obtaining this.
  • Evidence of participation in research (peer reviewed publications etc.)
  • Relevant Fellowship training

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of innovative approaches to healthcare
  • Higher level research degree (MD or equivalent)

Other

Essential criteria

  • Audit experience
  • Ability to advise on efficient & smooth running of a specialist service and to organise & manage outpatient priorities, surgical waiting & operating lists
  • Experience of supervising doctors in training and in teaching clinical & operative skills
  • Experience of research, presentations to learned societies on topics related to surgery
  • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical/surgical problems
  • Publications in indexed journals

  • Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates
