Job description
SEN Teaching Assistant

Change a child's day. It might just change your career too.

Some children need a little extra support to find their voice.

Some need someone who understands that progress isn't always measured in test scores. Sometimes it's making eye contact for the first time. Joining in with a group activity. Walking into school with a smile.

If you're the kind of person who celebrates those moments, we'd love to meet you.

At Protocol Education, we're working with fantastic mainstream and specialist schools looking for compassionate, patient and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistants to support children with a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs, and complex learning difficulties.

Whether you've worked in education before or gained experience through care, youth work, coaching or support work, your skills could make a life-changing difference.

What your day could look like

No two days are ever the same, but you might be:

  • Supporting pupils one-to-one or in small groups
  • Helping children build confidence, communication and independence
  • Using creative approaches to make learning engaging and accessible
  • Encouraging positive behaviour through patience and understanding
  • Working alongside teachers, therapists and SENCOs to help every child reach their potential
  • Celebrating the little wins that make the biggest difference

We're looking for people who...

  • Are caring, patient and genuinely enjoy working with children
  • Have experience supporting children or adults with additional needs, or transferable experience in care, youth work or community settings
  • Stay calm under pressure and build positive relationships
  • Want to make every school day a safe, happy and successful one
  • Have a willingness to learn and develop professionally

Experience with Autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs or physical disabilities is welcomed, but above all, we're looking for people with the right attitude.

Why choose Protocol Education?

We know that supporting children with additional needs is one of the most rewarding jobs there is, but it can also be challenging.

That's why we'll make sure you're supported from day one.

When you join Protocol Education, you'll receive:

✔ Weekly PAYE pay, no umbrella companies

✔ FREE access to our online CPD Academy

✔ FREE Thrive training, helping you develop practical strategies to support children's emotional wellbeing

✔ A dedicated consultant who gets to know you, your experience and the type of school where you'll thrive

✔ Opportunities across mainstream schools, specialist provisions and alternative settings

✔ Flexible day-to-day, long-term and permanent opportunities

✔ Simple registration and local placements

✔ A referral scheme where you can earn rewards for recommending friends

Why schools love our SEN Teaching Assistants

Because they don't just support learning.

They build confidence.

They create calm in challenging moments.

They help children believe in themselves.

And that's something every school values.

Ready to make a real difference?

If you're looking for a role where every day matters, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today and let's find a school where your kindness, patience and passion can make a lasting impact.

Ready to make a difference?

If you're looking for your next opportunity, I'd love to help you find the right school.
