Job description
Senior Clinical Psychologist
The closing date is 11 August 2026

Job summary
As part of the wider transformation of community mental health services, we are delighted to be recruiting to this newly developed post. The successful candidate will join with already existing rehabilitation services to help develop and deliver community mental health rehabilitation services across the central and east Lancashire area. Joining us at this time, the post-holder will gain valuable experience in development and clinical leadership of a new service. They will be well placed to help bring innovation and creativity to the development of these important new services and can help embed psychologically informed ways of working from the start.

Aligned with national drivers to improve outcomes for individuals with the most complex mental health difficulties, work is underway to ensure that we offer a robust pathway in the least restrictive, clinically effective and safest way possible. Phase 1 of the Rehab transformation project will focus on the establishment of the Community Rehab teams within the Pennine area, before rolling out to bring in the Central/Preston localities. It is anticipated that the post-holder will work across both patches providing equitable psychological input to both teams.

Main duties of the job
  • To work as part of a specialist mental health rehabilitation team that provides specialist assessment, treatment, interventions and support to enable the recovery of people whose complex needs cannot be met by general adult mental health services. This service aims to work with people to help them acquire or regain the skills and confidence to live successfully in the community. They focus on addressing and minimising the symptoms and functional impairment that people may have, with an emphasis on achieving as much individual autonomy and independence as possible.
  • The post holder will lead in the development and provision of a highly specialist psychology service for clients with complex psychological and mental health presentations across two mental health rehabilitation community teams.
  • To provide specialist psychological assessment and interventions, including neuropsychological assessment, as well as providing consultation and advice on clients' psychological care to MDT colleagues and carers.
  • To contribute to support and training of other staff within the care group, across the trust and into other services as agreed.
  • To provide clinical supervision and to play an active role in service developments and governance within the service as required.
  • To work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the service's policies and procedures.
