Job summary
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Research Delivery Manager to lead and develop the delivery of high-quality research across South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SCAS). This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in advancing pre-hospital and urgent care research, supporting innovation and improving patient outcomes. Working within the Research team, the post holder will oversee the successful delivery of a diverse portfolio of studies, ensuring all research activity is conducted in line with regulatory requirements, national frameworks and organisational priorities, while helping to embed a strong research culture across the Trust.

The successful candidate will bring significant experience of delivering or managing research withinSCAS, alongside a strong understanding of UK research governance frameworks, including the requirements of the Health Research Authority, Good Clinical Practice and relevant data protection legislation. They will demonstrate excellent organisational, leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex environment and to motivate and support others.

This is a fixed-term secondment opportunity until 31 Oct 2026 with a maximum availability of 1.0 WTE. A part-time appointment is possible (minimum 0.6 WTE).

Main duties of the job
The Research Delivery Manager will lead the operational oversight, coordination and performance management of the Trust's research delivery portfolio. The post holder will ensure studies open to recruitment and achieve first participant recruitment within agreed timelines, and maintain recruitment to target, with appropriate resources in place, operating in compliance with national frameworks, sponsor expectations and local policies. In addition to leading and coordinating research delivery, the post holder will personally contribute to the delivery of research studies, including participant identification, recruitment, consent and data collection, maintaining clinical competence and visibility within frontline delivery.

Acting as a senior clinical research professional (Paramedic or Nurse), the post holder will provide expert guidance to delivery teams, facilitate site setup and capacity planning, monitor study performance, resolve delivery issues, and support high-quality participant recruitment and study conduct across SCAS. They will work with the trust Research Governance team to ensure regulatory compliance of all trials.

Job responsibilities
The Research Delivery Manager will be responsible for coordinating and managing emergency/urgent care and community research studies from set-up through to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, to target and in accordance with governance standards. The role includes providing expert advice on research processes, approvals and compliance, as well as developing and implementing systems that support efficient and high-quality study delivery. The post holder will work closely with internal SCAS teams to integrate research into frontline practice, while building effective external relationships academic partners and community stakeholders. Responsibility for monitoring performance, analysing data and reporting on research activity, including recruitment and delivery metrics, will also form a key part of the role.

Although the role currently has no direct linemanagement responsibilities, the post holder will work closely and collaboratively with all delivery staff, providing operational leadership, professional advice and taskbased direction to ensure safe, efficient and effective research delivery across multiple sites and services. There is potential for the role to develop to include line-management responsibilities in the future, in line with service requirements.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Registered Paramedic or Registered Nurse with valid HCPC/NMC registration.
  • Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field (health, social science, research, governance or related discipline).
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training, or willingness to complete on appointment

Desirable
  • Postgraduate research qualification or leadership/management training.
  • Training in project management, quality management systems or audit.
  • Training in data management or use of research-related digital systems.

Knowledge
  • Demonstrable experience of direct participant-facing clinical research delivery within the NHS or similar regulated environment.
  • Strong understanding of NIHR research delivery frameworks, study set-up processes and performance management.
  • Demonstrable experience supporting achievement of time-and-target recruitment.
  • Experience leading operational aspects of studies without direct line management responsibility.
  • Knowledge of research governance, HRA processes, protocol adherence and safety reporting.
  • Ability to supervise, mentor or guide clinical research delivery staff.
  • Experience working with EDGE/CPMS, REDCap or similar platforms.

Desirable
  • Experience providing clinical leadership in research delivery environments.
  • Experience contributing to audits, monitoring visits or inspections.
  • Experience in ambulance-sector /emergency care research.
  • Experience working autonomously across multiple clinical environments (e.g. community, pre-hospital, urgent care settings)
