Job description
Job Summary
The post holder will be responsible for undertaking, ward rounds for elective and emergency bariatric surgery patients, discharging inpatients post-surgery, post-op follow up, ordering investigations and interpreting the results, formulating treatment plans, autonomous nurse-led outpatient clinics (once competent to do so and data collection.

The post holder will be based in the specialty of Bariatric and Upper GI surgery.

The Specialist Practitioner/Nurse will be an experienced practitioner who uses specialist knowledge and skills to support the patients considering and undergoing obesity, metabolic or bariatric surgery treatments.

They will work under the supervision of the Consultant Nurse for Obesity, Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery or the Consultant Surgeons for Bariatric and Upper GI Surgery.

This role has been approved for advertising; however, it is also being assessed as a suitable alternative employment opportunity. As a result, the vacancy may be withdrawn or there may be a delay before shortlisting can begin.

This role is open to all applicants. However, in line with Cornwall First recruitment principles, initial shortlisting will prioritise applicants from Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust, Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, and the Integrated Care Board for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Main Duties of the Job
The main duties include, pre op assessment, face to face/video and telephone assessments pre and post surgery. Reviewing blood test, clinical imaging results and other investigations necessary to support the patient journey through the pre and post op pathway.

Reviewing patients on the ward prior to discharge home ensuring they have all the information they need to support the transition from liquid diet through to normal textured foods 7 weeks post surgery.
