Then South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the Trust for you! We are offering an exciting opportunity for a motivated, enthusiastic and inspirational band 5 or band 6 midwife, to join our dynamic Midwifery team.

We are a dynamic and diverse Trust, with a friendly and supportive atmosphere and our team delivers of over 5500 births a year between our two hospitals; The James Cook University Hospital and the Friarage Midwifery-led unit.

Main duties of the job
As a Newly Registered Midwife, we offer an innovative, robust, comprehensive 12-month preceptorship programme, designed to support your transition and to successfully achieve the required competencies to progress to a confident band 6.

We provide an in-depth induction programme and continuous support throughout with clinical and practical skills, training, and pastoral care with full support from our dedicated Preceptorship Lead Midwife.

You will have the opportunity to rotate to all maternity areas in our Trust, including community, to maximise your professional development and gain relevant experience.

If you are an experienced band 6 midwife, we offer a bespoke training induction to smooth your transition into our team and we welcome your fresh energy, experience and passion to drive our service forward. You will have the opportunity to utilise your well-honed skills to provide antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care for women and their families in our area.

Qualifications & Training
Essential
  • NMC registered midwife
  • Evidence of continuous development

Experience
Essential
  • Completion of midwifery qualification working across all areas of maternity.
  • To identify and utilise appropriate opportunities within the clinical area in order to develop the skills required to fulfil own professional and personal development.
  • To fulfil the NMC framework appropriate to the role of the midwife.
  • To maintain knowledge and work within the midwives code of practice and midwives rules.
  • To ensure knowledge updated and maintained as follows: - oPREP requirements. oLocal and national policy development.
  • All aspects of corporate and obstetric mandatory training (as outlined in the training record).
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships

Knowledge & Skills
Essential
  • To hold and continually enhance effective communication skills in order to work efficiently within a multidisciplinary team.
  • To maintain clinical skills to provide high quality midwifery care in a variety of settings.
  • To utilise their professional judgement to assess problems/conditions and needs to plan care for women and babies
  • To develop skills and competence to participate in the teaching and mentorship of learners within the clinical area.
  • To continually develop the skills to safely utilise equipment for the provision of maternity care.
  • Ability to develop and maintain flexible and innovative approaches to care in keeping with current research-based practice.
  • To develop skills and experience with the promotion, support and assistance of infant feeding.
  • To collaborate with other agencies to ensure the safety of women, babies and families.
  • To ensure that the emotional and mental needs of women, babies and families are met.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a safe environment.
  • The midwife will ensure they follow the Trust's policy on records management and complies with the NHS Code of Practice for Records Management.
  • To develop awareness and skills in clinical audit systems, leading to improvements in care for women, babies and their families.
