Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 registered nurse to join our service. We are a team of Clinical Nurse Specialists and support staff working in the speciality of Stoma Care. We are a diverse service providing service delivery throughout the patient's surgical pathway; pre-operative nurse-led satellite clinics to inpatient care within University Hospitals Southampton Foundation Trust, follow-up nurse-led satellite clinics, telephone clinics and domiciliary visits.

We are looking for a registered nurse with a first degree or working towards a qualification in Stoma Care (Level 6 or 7) and teaching qualification. You will have a background in surgical, cancer or community nursing with an innovative, dynamic and enthusiastic approach to practice, looking to expand knowledge and experience within the speciality of stoma care. The successful applicant will provide high quality, evidence-based assessment, diagnostic and specialist interventions for patients who require colorectal, urological or gynaecology surgery and formation of a stoma.

The successful applicant will be expected to undertake further training in stoma care and there will be opportunity to work towards becoming an independent nurse prescriber. You will be supported to develop your role and to contribute to improvements with service delivery. Main duties of the job
  • CNS working as a key team member providing a service to patients with a stoma as inpatients, outpatients, phone/video clinics, home visits as appropriate.
  • Autonomously manage and accountable for a caseload of patients providing specialist nursing care including comprehensive clinical skills.
  • To take responsibility for prescribing such medications as are deemed professionally appropriate in line with National Prescribing Formulary, stoma acute medication formulary and Trust policies and procedures having successfully completed the Independent Nurse Prescribing qualification.
  • Undertake and participate in research and clinical audits within own specialist area, ensuring maintenance of clinical excellence, underpinned by evidence-based practice.
  • Participate in the education and training of the multidisciplinary team across Southampton City and parts of West Hampshire, within the acute sector and at a national and international level in stoma care.
  • Provide expert clinical advice and support to all members of the multidisciplinary team within the trust, locally and nationally.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Registered General Nurse.
  • First degree or working towards qualification in Stoma Care (Level 6).
  • Teaching qualification.
  • Evidence of post registration academic development.
