Job description

Job Summary
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to assist in providing comprehensive Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) across the rural and urban area of Flintshire and Wrexham. The base will flexible to meet the needs of the service, and discussed and agreed via job planning meetings. It is expected that consultants will develop an area of specialist interest to clinically lead, develop and improve services. Time would be provided as part of their 3rd SPA. Current examples include: intellectual disability; eating disorders; and sleep. The details would be agreed within the remit of job planning and to align with service requirements.We are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to assist in providing comprehensive Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services to complement the expertise of other Community Consultants and their teams.This is an opportunity to work within a dynamic and innovative service committed to transforming and delivering services that are evidence based and fit for the population of Flintshire and Wrexham

Main Duties of the Job

  • Assessment, formulation and management of significant developmental, behavioural and mental health disorders occurring in children and adolescents 0-18 years
  • To offer supervision to colleagues in the teams.
  • To offer consultation and training to a range of professionals involved in CAMHS work on a mutually arranged basis.
  • To continue to develop further partnership working with Social Services, Homes for looked after Children and Education, to provide professional advice, support and assessments as necessary.
  • To join the existing out of hours 1 in 12 on call rota to provide psychiatric cover, consultation and advice to the North Wales Adolescent Service (NWAS) Tier 4 CAMHS Unit, the Paediatric Wards and Adult Mental Health colleagues at the three main hospital sites in North Wales. The on-call rota will include some direct emergency and crisis work at weekends and bank holidays (for example reviewing young people detained under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act). The post holder would also be expected to contribute to providing psychiatric cover for the community during working hours, together with other Consultant colleagues
  • To develop in conjunction with other colleagues best practice guidelines and where appropriate clinical pathways and protocols to aid the work of the team and ensure high standards of practice.

Qualifications and Experience
Essential

  • Registration on GMC Specialist Register for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
  • MRCPsych
  • Sufficient experience of working in community CAMHS settings
  • Approved under Section 12 (2) and committed to becoming an Accredited Clinician within three months of your appointment.
  • Familiarity with applying clinical governance and audit


Desirable

  • Formal teaching qualification
  • 'Training the Trainers' certification
  • Peer-reviewed publication
  • Supervising / mentoring / coaching colleagues


Skills and Abilities
Essential

  • Diagnosis and treatment of mental health presentations in children and adolescents in a multi-disciplinary team setting (including psychosis, mood disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, eating disorders, self-harm)
  • Demonstrate ability to manage time effectively
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Effective leadership skills and teamworking
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Competence in delivering teaching
  • Basic IT skills, including the ability to use Microsoft packages; communicating in line with the Health Board's Information Governance Policy.


Desirable

  • Skills in social psychological and behavioural therapies
  • Evidence of additional IT skills used for service improvement / academic research

  • Knowledge of Children Act (1989)
  • Knowledge of Mental Health Act (1983)
