Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN school from September. This is a full-time, term-time position supporting both primary and secondary pupils with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), learning difficulties, and speech and language needs.

We welcome applications from individuals with experience in education, health and social care, youth work, nursery settings, support work, or other roles involving children or vulnerable individuals. Candidates with relevant transferable skills are also encouraged to apply.

The Role

Working closely with teachers and the wider support team, you will play a key role in helping pupils achieve their educational and personal development goals within a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small group support to pupils.

  • Adapting learning activities to meet individual educational needs.

  • Encouraging communication, confidence, independence, and social development.

  • Contributing to a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment.

  • Supporting pupils to access the curriculum and achieve their full potential.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will:

  • Demonstrate patience, empathy, and adaptability.

  • Have a genuine commitment to supporting children and young people with additional needs.

  • Possess experience working with children, young people, or individuals with additional needs, or have transferable skills gained through care, youth work, coaching, or similar settings.

  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a positive and proactive approach to supporting learning.

Safeguarding

This role is subject to safeguarding requirements. Applicants must hold a Child Workforce DBS registered on the Update Service or be willing to obtain one prior to commencing employment.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
