Job summary
The Lung Cancer support nurse has delegated responsibility for the management of a cohort of patients on the lung cancer pathway. They will participate in innovation and evidence based nursing practice through professional leadership and supporting the clinical team in close liaison with the Lead Lung Cancer CNS and Lung Cancer Team. The Lung cancer support nurse will act as a credible and professional role model and encourage and empower other staff to develop both personally and professionally to achieve their maximum potential.

Job responsibilities
The Lung Cancer support nurse has delegated responsibility for the management of a cohort of patients on the lung cancer pathway. They will participate in innovation and evidence based nursing practice through professional leadership and supporting the clinical team in close liaison with the Lead Lung Cancer CNS and Lung Cancer Team. The Lung cancer support nurse will act as a credible and professional role model and encourage and empower other staff to develop both personally and professionally to achieve their maximum potential.

Person Specification
Essential

• Current NMC registration
• Evidence of degree level study or equivalent experience
• Evidence of teaching in a clinical environment
• Minimum of 3 years post registration experience to include 1 year of management / leadership experience
• Effective Leadership skills

Desirable

• Post graduate professional development qualification in Lung cancer related course ENB 998/Mentorship or in process of completing
• Knowledge of Cancer standards
• Experience of breaking bad news
• Clinical background within cardiothoracic surgery, oncology or respiratory care

Desirable

• Experience leading service development or pathway redesign
