Sellick Partnership is delighted to be working with a leading international construction and engineering business to recruit a Senior Legal Counsel.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly regarded in-house legal team supporting complex construction projects across the UK and Europe.
Working closely with the Head of Legal, you'll become a trusted legal adviser to the business, partnering with commercial and project teams on high-value construction projects while enjoying genuine autonomy and the opportunity to broaden your involvement beyond purely legal work.
Senior Legal Counsel - Role Overview
This is a broad, commercially focused in-house role, with around 80% of the work centred on reviewing and negotiating construction contracts. You'll primarily advise on JCT contracts, while also supporting projects involving NEC and FIDIC contracts where required.
Alongside contract work, you'll provide strategic legal advice throughout the project lifecycle, support project teams on commercial issues and contribute to wider legal initiatives across the business.
The role offers excellent exposure to senior stakeholders and would suit a construction lawyer looking to play a more visible role within an international business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review, draft and negotiate construction contracts, primarily JCT with exposure to NEC and FIDIC
Provide commercially focused legal advice throughout the lifecycle of construction projects
Support project teams during tender negotiations and live project delivery
Advise on contractual risk and prepare practical risk mitigation strategies
Support project advisory work and commercial decision making
Assist with construction-related claims and disputes where required
Manage warranties, guarantees and wider contractual documentation
Liaise with external legal advisers on specialist matters
Contribute to legal compliance, policies and internal best practice
Build strong relationships with stakeholders across commercial, operational and leadership teams
Requirements:
- Qualified Solicitor ideally 6+ yrs PQE
Strong UK construction law experience gained within a leading law firm or highly regarded contractor
Excellent working knowledge of JCT contracts, with exposure to NEC and/or FIDIC
Strong commercial drafting and contract negotiation skills
Comfortable working independently and acting as a trusted adviser to the business
Previous in-house experience is welcomed but not essential
Strong technical ability and a genuine interest in construction law
