Job description

Join us in shaping the future of children's healthcare in Somerset.

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is offering multiple Consultant Paediatrician opportunities across Yeovil Hospital and Musgrove Park Hospital to support the expansion of our countywide children's services.

As part of one of the UK's most innovative integrated NHS organisations, Somerset Paediatrics delivers acute, community and mental health services through a integrated network of care. We are redesigning services around children and families rather than organisational boundaries, creating opportunities for consultants who want to influence healthcare delivery for years to come.

We are seeking enthusiastic and collaborative paediatricians with interests in: Paediatric Cardiology, Adolescent Medicine, Neonatal Care to support the development of our Level 1 Special Neonatal Unit at Yeovil. We also welcome applications from consultants with complementary specialist interests who are passionate about general paediatric care.

Alongside these posts, we are seeking an experienced consultant with a track record of leadership to join our multidisciplinary senior leadership team. This role will help shape the strategic direction of paediatric services across Somerset, leading service development, workforce transformation, quality improvement and collaboration. If you are looking for a role where you can make a lasting difference to children, families and services across an entire county, we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

Consultant posts: General paediatric posts with opportunity for sub‑specialty interest roles to include acute paediatric on call rotas that are RCPCH facing the future compliant. Full time 10PAs, or less than full time will be considered. There is also an on call requirement.

Job planning to meet your unique needs and service requirements.

Protected time and active support for developing your area of specialist interest including clinical sub‑specialist interests, education, leadership and service development.

A real chance to shape the development of a leading‑edge paediatric service for our local community alongside our multi‑professional dynamic leadership team.

Bespoke induction program based on your needs, enhanced peer support during your first year, access to clinical restorative supervision and our trust‑wide senior doctoring mentoring programme.

We value clinicians who put the care of children and young people at the centre of everything they do, are curious, compassionate and collaborative, enjoy developing services as much as delivering them, want to help train tomorrow's paediatricians and believe healthcare should continually improve.

In our team you'll find a genuinely collaborative consultant body and multidisciplinary leadership team, modern integrated healthcare across acute and community services, and strong multidisciplinary working.

We would welcome contact and discussion prior to application.

Clinical Director: Dr Amy Whiting
