Job description

We’re looking for a Manager in our Health & Protection policy team to play a key role in influencing the future of health and protection insurance in the UK. Working closely with the Assistant Director, Head of Health & Protection Policy, you’ll help develop and drive policy that supports a more financially resilient and healthier population, while enabling insurers to innovate, grow and deliver better outcomes for customers. This is a brand new role sitting in a team of four. Why work here? When meeting us, you’ll quickly discover that the best thing about the ABI is the people. We’re hugely proud that 98% feel the ABI cares about their wellbeing and we are empowered to bring our whole self to work without fear of judgment. We work at the forefront of policy development - helping to get things right before they are implemented and ironing out bumps where they are identified in existing rules. Our team is made up of people who are new to insurance, those who are highly experienced, and everyone in-between, so we welcome people from all industry backgrounds. What’s the job? * Help lead the ABI’s policy and strategic work on a range of health and protection insurance issues, helping to shape the future of the market and deliver positive outcomes for consumers. * Build influential relationships with senior leaders across industry, government, regulators and other key stakeholders to drive change, gather insight and advance the sector’s priorities. * Represent the ABI and its members through high-profile engagement, including industry committees, policy forums, media activity and speaking opportunities. * Help lead and develop a high-performing team, while working collaboratively across policy, regulation, data and analytics, corporate affairs and wider ABI teams. * Facilitate member discussions and policy debates to develop credible, evidence-based positions that balance member priorities with consumer interests. * Contribute to the leadership and strategic direction of the ABI, supporting organisational priorities, business planning and cross-functional projects. What skills do you need? * Policy knowledge – you understand how the policy and regulatory environment impacts on health & protection insurance providers, or wider financial services sector. An understanding of health policy and financial inclusion is also desirable. * Line management – you can line manage, develop, motivate and effectively delegate to a team, as well as lead and take ownership of a broad and varied remit of your own work. * Galvanising support for policy positions – you can lead and challenge member thinking, and steer discussions to gain consensus. * Lobbying skills – ability to win confidence of senior people in member firms, government, regulators and elsewhere, and to argue persuasively for the industry’s interests. * Relationship management – ability to work proactively with colleagues to get positive results, as well as build credibility with C-suite and other senior stakeholders. Throughout the interview and assessment process, we will be looking for you to demonstrate our values; We are Brave; We take Ownership; We are Appreciative; We are Human and We are Curious. The interview process will typically be two stages with at least one in person at our amazing offices. Do we offer flexible/hybrid working? Yes - we are open to flexible, part time and/or job share working – please let us know if this would be your preference. We work in a hybrid way with at least 40% of our time in the office. Inclusion matters to us We welcome applications from candidates from all backgrounds and we run our application process in a way that removes bias as much as possible and allows everyone equal opportunity to demonstrate their suitability. We are proud to be a Disability Confident employer and are committed to making adjustments to help you perform at your best in our recruitment process. Additionally, where practicable, we offer an interview to disabled candidates who meet the minimum requirements for a role. To discuss, please contact careers@abi.org.uk To find out more You can find lots more information on our careers page, including details of our generous benefits package and who we are as an organisation.
