Job description
Position: Attendance Officer Location: Birmingham Contract: Full-Time, Permanent Start Date: Immediate Start Available Attendance Officer Role in a High-Performing Secondary School A high-performing Secondary School in Birmingham is seeking to appoint a dedicated and organised Attendance Officer to join its pastoral and student support team. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in improving attendance, engagement, and student outcomes within a school that places wellbeing and achievement at the centre of its work. About the Role The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and promoting excellent attendance and punctuality across the school. Working closely with senior leaders, Heads of Year, safeguarding staff, students, families, and external agencies, you will identify attendance concerns, implement interventions, and support strategies that encourage regular attendance and engagement with learning. You will maintain accurate attendance records, analyse attendance data, communicate effectively with parents and carers, and ensure that all attendance procedures comply with statutory guidance and school policies. Key Responsibilities Monitor daily student attendance and punctuality Investigate and follow up unexplained absences Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies regarding attendance concerns Maintain accurate attendance records and reports Analyse attendance data to identify trends and target interventions Support attendance improvement plans and pastoral strategies Work closely with safeguarding, pastoral, and leadership teams Promote a positive culture of attendance, punctuality, and engagement The School Environment This High-Performing Secondary School in Birmingham provides a welcoming and ambitious environment where students are encouraged to achieve academically while developing confidence, resilience, and strong personal values. Candidate Requirements Essential Requirements Previous experience in an attendance, administration, pastoral, or student support role Excellent organisational and communication skills Strong IT skills and experience maintaining accurate records Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues Ability to handle sensitive information professionally and confidentially Desirable Experience working within a school or educational setting Knowledge of attendance procedures, safeguarding, and statutory guidance Experience using school management systems such as SIMS, Arbor, or Bromcom Experience analysing attendance data and producing reports How to Apply If you are interested in this Attendance Officer role at a High-Performing Secondary School in Birmingham, please submit your CV as soon as possible.
