Timber Frame General Operative

Founded in 1913, Glennon Brothers is a leading timber processing Group operating across Ireland and the UK, with over a century of experience and a strong, well‑established growth story. Today, the Group operates through a portfolio of respected brands including Glennon Brothers, Balcas, DTE, Alexanders Timber Design and, most recently, Pontrilas, reflecting both its scale and strategic expansion.

Across its brands, Glennon Brothers supplies a wide range of timber products to the Irish and UK markets, serving the construction, pallet wood and fencing industries. The Group also manufactures timber frame homes and engineered roof trusses for the housebuilding sector and operates several combined heat and power (CHP) and wood pellet manufacturing facilities.

Following the acquisition of Pontrilas in January 2026, the Group has significantly increased its turnover and expanded its workforce to over 1,400 colleagues. This growth has been driven by a strong commitment to its people, a customer‑focused service ethos, and continued investment in advanced technology and operational capability. Glennon Brothers operates a multi‑site footprint across Longford, Fermoy, Enniskillen, Troon, Irvine, Windymains and Invergordon, providing a diverse and collaborative working environment across its Group brands and functions.

Principle Objective

Reporting to the relevant Shift Supervisor or Team Lead, the General Operative is responsible for supporting the safe, efficient and well‑organised day‑to‑day operation of the timber frame production line.

The role involves working as part of a production team, carrying out assigned operational tasks, maintaining safety and quality standards, and contributing to productivity, housekeeping and continuous improvement across the site

Knowledge & Experience

– Experience in timber frame, manufacturing, production or similar operational environment is desirable but not essential.

– Awareness of health and safety requirements and safe systems of work, or a willingness to learn and follow them.

– Experience working effectively as part of a team in a practical, operational setting.

– A hands‑on, reliable and safety‑conscious approach to work.

– Flexibility to support different areas of the sawmill operation as required.

– Relevant training, licences or certifications are advantageous but not required, as full training will be provided.

– Formal qualifications are not essential where the right attitude, aptitude and willingness to learn are demonstrated.

Key Responsibilities

– Carry out production tasks safely, efficiently and in line with company procedures.

– Follow all health, safety and environmental policies, risk assessments and safe systems of work.

– Use tools, machinery and equipment correctly and report faults, defects or safety concerns promptly.

– Support product handling activities, including building pre cut timber into various panels, gables and trusses

– Maintain good housekeeping and organisation standards in work areas at all times.

– Assist with quality checks and report any product or process issues to supervision.

– Work cooperatively with colleagues to achieve daily production and operational targets.

– Follow instructions from supervisors and contribute to effective handovers between shifts.

– Participate in training, toolbox talks, safety briefings and continuous improvement activities.

Essential Competencies

– Experience of woodworking is advantageous but not essential.

– Experience with nail guns and various other woodworking equipment would be desirable.

– Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment.

– Good health and safety knowledge would be advantageous.

– Enthusiastic & self-motivated and ability to motivate the team.

– Results driven whilst participating in a team environment.
