Are you an empathetic, resilient, and highly creative English Teacher passionate about re-engaging pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs through literature and expressive writing? This could be an exceptional opportunity to make a transformative impact within a dedicated special educational needs environment. Well-resourced, specialist SEMH secondary school based in Essex English Teacher (KS3 & KS4 English Language & Literature) Full-time, permanent role | September start Our client is seeking an ambitious, trauma-informed English Teacher to join their skilled multidisciplinary team from September. This is a full-time, permanent position, ideal for a Main Scale Teacher (NQT/ECT or experienced) with a strong passion for differentiated learning, emotional literacy, and small-class academic delivery. The successful candidate will teach English to pupils with diverse SEMH profiles, complex communication needs, and associated behavioral challenges. Classes are small (typically 6 to 8 pupils) and supported by dedicated Teaching Assistants. You will focus on building relational trust, implementing positive behavior strategies, adapting curriculum pathways (including Functional Skills, Step Up to English, and GCSE), and creating a calm, therapeutic classroom atmosphere. The English department benefits from bespoke sensory spaces, modern digital media tools, and collaborative working with on-site speech and language therapists, educational psychologists, and occupational therapists. Senior leadership actively manages teacher workloads with centralized planning schemes and dedicated non-contact time. Staff enjoy continuous professional development (CPD) in de-escalation strategies, trauma-informed practice, and therapeutic mentoring. Experience and Qualifications Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS status Proven experience or a strong desire to teach within an SEN/SEMH setting Deep understanding of social, emotional, and mental health needs, trauma-informed teaching, and positive behavior management Ability to deliver creative, highly adapted English lessons up to Functional Skills Level 2 and GCSE Application To be considered for this English Teacher (SEMH) position starting in September, please forward your CV as soon as possible.
