37 hours per week, Monday Friday.We have an exciting opportunity for a Telemetry Communication Engineer to join the Operational Technology team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers.

Operational Technology are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.The Operational Technology team sits at the heart of Yorkshire Waters operational network, ensuring that the systems used to monitor and control assets across the region are reliable, secure and effective.

The team manages the technology that connects operational sites to central monitoring systems, enabling real-time insight into network performance.

Through collaboration, innovation and technical expertise, the team supports safe and efficient operations while driving continuous improvement across Yorkshire Water's operational technology estate.Where you fit in!As our Telemetry Communication Engineer you will be:Monitoring and improving the performance of Yorkshire Water's telemetry and operational communications networks, ensuring reliable data flow from operational assets across the region.Analysing performance data and producing meaningful reports and insights that support decision-making and drive continuous improvement.Working closely with communication providers and technology partners to maximise network performance, resolve issues and ensure contractual service levels are achieved.Managing the day-to-day performance of key operational technology contracts, holding partners accountable and driving improvements where required.Investigating communication and telemetry issues, coordinating recovery plans and providing clear updates to stakeholders across the business.Maintaining the accuracy and integrity of telemetry asset records, supporting asset lifecycle planning and ensuring documentation remains up to date.Providing technical expertise and governance for telemetry solutions, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and supporting the transition of new assets into operational use.Identifying and evaluating new technologies, leading trials and innovation initiatives, and sharing knowledge and best practice through training, guidance and technical support.What skills & qualifications you will need:A recognised engineering qualification (HNC or above) in Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Control & Systems Engineering, or a related discipline, supported by relevant industry experience.Strong knowledge of telemetry and communications systems, including network architectures, communication protocols, fault diagnosis and performance optimisation.The ability to interpret and apply technical documentation, including engineering drawings, specifications, schematics and standards.Experience working within engineering compliance, governance and health & safety frameworks, with a commitment to delivering reliable, secure and compliant solutions.Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound technical decisions, manage competing priorities and remain effective under pressure.Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience building relationships across operational teams, suppliers, contractors and senior stakeholders.A collaborative approach to working, with the ability to share knowledge, mentor colleagues, support training initiatives and contribute to a positive team culture.A passion for innovation and continuous improvement, with an interest in emerging technologies and a proven ability to identify opportunities to enhance operational performance.Full UK driving licence.Membership of, or actively working towards membership of, a relevant professional body (such as the IET) is desirable.You will also benefit from having:Experience working with RTS systems, telemetry integration and communications technologies such as cellular, fibre, radio or satellite networks.Knowledge of cybersecurity principles within Operational Technology (OT) environments, alongside experience using data analytics tools to identify trends, diagnose issues and drive performance improvements.Experience leading technology trials, pilot deployments or proof-of-concept initiatives, with the ability to influence stakeholders and communicate complex technical concepts clearly.Familiarity with the water or utilities sector, including operational processes, asset lifecycle management, predictive maintenance approaches and continuous improvement practices.Although we operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, its important to us that we support flexible working patterns and job share options (when we can), to help you make the best of both your work and home life.
