Job description
Aspiring Physiotherapist – Learning Support Assistant – West Drayton Title: Aspiring Physiotherapist – Learning Support Assistant – West Drayton Location: West Drayton | Start Date: September 2026Pay: £108 per day | Hours: 8:30 am - 3:30 pm (Term Time Only) Aspiring Physiotherapist? This is your clinical classroom. If you are a Sports Science, Physiotherapy, or Health Sciences graduate looking to build real‑world experience before your MSc or NHS placement, this role offers something unique. You will be working with children who have physical disabilities, global developmental delay, and complex communication needs—gaining hands‑on exposure to the very challenges you will treat as a qualified physiotherapist. Why this role is the perfect launchpad for Physiotherapy: * Observe & Support Gross Motor Development: Many of the students we support use wheelchairs or mobility aids, and face significant delays in reaching physical milestones. You will see firsthand how conditions affect posture, gait, balance, and coordination—and you will work alongside physiotherapists and occupational therapists to implement physical programmes that build strength and mobility. * Understand the Link Between Physical and Cognitive Development: These children often have speech and language challenges alongside their physical disabilities. You will learn how physical positioning, core stability, and sensory input directly impact a child’s ability to focus, communicate, and engage with learning—a crucial insight for any physio working with neurodiverse or multiply‑disabled populations. * Practical Experience with Mobility Aids & Equipment: You will gain familiarity with wheelchairs, standing frames, walking frames, and other assistive technology. Learning how to safely support transfers, positioning, and postural management in a real‑world setting gives you a significant advantage when you begin your physiotherapy placements. * Develop Your Clinical Eye: You will learn to recognise subtle changes in muscle tone, joint stiffness, and fatigue. You will see how physical discomfort or pain manifests in behaviour, especially in children who cannot verbally articulate what they are feeling. This ability to "read" the body is at the heart of effective physiotherapy assessment. * Build Therapeutic Rapport with Non‑Verbal Children: Communication is about more than words. You will learn to build trust through consistency, touch, and presence—skills that are essential when working with children who have speech and language challenges or cognitive impairments. About the Role: This specialist provision in West Drayton supports young people with: * Physical disabilities and mobility challenges * Global developmental delay * Speech and language difficulties * Complex health needs and sensory processing differences Your role will focus on supporting students to access their education safely, building their physical confidence, and helping them develop the gross and fine motor skills they need for daily life. This opportunity is ideal for those aspiring to become: * Physiotherapists (Paediatric or Neurological specialisms) * Sports Therapists or Rehabilitation Practitioners * Occupational Therapists * Special Educational Needs (SEN) Professionals * Clinical Exercise Physiologists What You’ll Be Doing: * Supporting pupils 1:1 and in small groups with physical activities and mobility * Assisting with transfers, positioning, and postural management (with full training) * Encouraging engagement in physio‑led programmes and daily movement routines * Helping students build strength, balance, and coordination through play and structured activities * Working closely with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and SEN staff * Promoting independence, confidence, and physical wellbeing * Supporting students with communication and sensory needs What We’re Looking For: We’d love to hear from you if you: * Are a graduate in Physiotherapy, Sports Science, Health Sciences, or a related field—or have relevant experience in care, support work, or rehabilitation * Have a genuine interest in paediatric physiotherapy, disability, and neurorehabilitation * Are physically confident, patient, and adaptable * Have strong observation and communication skills * Understand how physical challenges impact learning, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing No school-based experience is required - your attitude, empathy, and willingness to learn are what matter most. Full training in manual handling, safeguarding, and postural support will be provided. Start Date: September 2026 Milk Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. We are proudly APSCo Compliance+ accredited, reflecting our dedication to the highest standards in safer recruitment. All applicants will be subject to thorough compliance checks in line with DfE, Keeping Children Safe in Education, and APSCo guidelines.
