Consultant in Diabetes, Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine

Overview There is an exciting opportunity for a full time Consultant in Diabetes/Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine to join the existing team working across WTWA Hospitals. The successful candidate will join 7 Consultant Diabetes/Endocrinologists who work across WTWA. We are well supported by middle grade doctors including specialists trainees, specialty doctors. The diabetes/endocrinology aspect of this post will be primarily based at Wythenshawe, Withington and Trafford with the options of clinics at Altrincham to the successful candidates preferences and the needs of the service. The Diabetes and Endocrinology service provides the full spectrum and secondary and tertiary services. We are keen to attract candidates interested in innovative ways to move the specialist services forward and also keen to recruit a colleagues who will contribute to the wider hospital including but not limited to supporting management and training (both undergraduate and postgraduate) activities. There are regular multidisciplinary teams meetings. Main duties of the job This appointment will be made in accordance with the 2023 Consultant Contract Terms and Conditions. The Job Descriptions indicates the main duties of the post which maybe reviewed in light of experience and developments within the service. Any review will be undertaken in conjunction with the post holder. This is a full time 10 PA post. Offers of less than full time work or job shares would also be considered. The multidisciplinary team includes Specialist nurses, psychologists and specialist podiatry. Apart from the outpatient activity, the successful candidate would spend over a third of their weekday job plan delivering consultant led care on a newly developed Medical Specialties Ward. This is a 23 bedded ward caring for patients with a variety of presenting conditions. They would manage the patients with 2 other consultants with specialist interests in other disciplines i.e. renal. It would be expected they provide teaching and supervision to the juniors on the ward and lead on service delivery, improvement and relevant QIP. Person Specification * Basic Medical Qualification * MRCP or equivalent * Evidence of interest in teaching * Higher medical degree * Research in areas of relevance and innovative practice. * Recognised teaching qualification Training * Completed or be within 6 months of securing a CCT in Diabetes, Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine, or its equivalent * Entry on Specialist Register of GMC for Diabetes and Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine Experience * Broad experience in General Medicine. * Experience in the management of diabetes and its complications and endocrine conditions * Supervision and training of undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff * Experience and enthusiasm to teach a wide spectrum of multi-disciplinary staff * Special interests Skills * Ability to undertake/supervise audit / quality improvement projects resulting in improved practice * Ability to work in the Medicine Directorate and liaise with professional colleagues * Evidence of awareness of and active participation in current management issues * Enthusiasm to build, lead and work in a team * Ability to communicate with patients and relatives * Ability to communicate with and motivate staff * Ability to co-ordinate multidisciplinary audit programme Professional Interests * Interests which integrate with the stated specialist interests within the department * A new interest which enhances the department Personal Skills * Committed, able and compassionate clinician.
