Job description
Overview Residential Childcare and Short Breaks for Children are part of the Children’s Social Work Service within the Children’s Services Directorate. The service includes Through Care and After Care (TCAC) for young people who have previously been looked after. The aim is to provide a nurturing and safe environment, supporting children and young people to grow physically and emotionally to realise their potential. Residential care for children and young people is a complex and challenging area of work that requires a compassionate and competent staff team to meet individual needs, including those who have experienced trauma. You will work as part of a team to provide the highest quality of care to children and young people. You will support them with activities that are important to them, and develop person-centred care plans that promote independence as they grow and mature. This vacancy is a Career Graded post, offering a career development opportunity. The Council will support the successful candidate to obtain the necessary skills, abilities and knowledge to become fully competent in the role, with progression through the career grade. Where a qualification is required, this will be fully funded by the Council. Responsibilities You will: * Provide direct care and support to children and young people to achieve positive outcomes. * Ensure the environment is nurturing and that children and young people feel loved, safe, and respected. * Support children and young people with activities important to them. * Develop and implement person-centred care plans that promote independence and growth. Requirements and Information * The post is career graded; salary and career progression depend on experience and qualifications (grade H/I). * Salary includes Distant Islands Allowance where applicable (£1.5523 per hour). * 3 x Permanent Part Time posts for 24.0 hours per week, 52.18 weeks per year. * PVG Scheme requirement or update prior to offer of employment. * Registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) on appointment. * Relocation package does not apply. * Interview expenses paid from within Shetland. * Ability to travel throughout Shetland at short notice; public transport may be limited. * Flexible working options available.
