Job description
Are you a proactive, highly organised facilities professional ready to drive operational safety, security, and mechanical efficiency across a thriving secondary school campus? This could be an exceptional opportunity to manage a dedicated caretaking team in Shrewsbury. High-achieving, oversubscribed 11 to 18 secondary academy in Shrewsbury Site Manager to lead daily caretaking operations and statutory compliance Full-time, year-round permanent role | September start Our client is seeking a dedicated and technically minded Site Manager to join their experienced facilities department from September. This is a full-time, year-round position, ideal for a hands-on caretaking supervisor, commercial maintenance coordinator, or skilled trade specialist looking to coordinate physical safety, school event setups, and campus upkeep. The successful candidate will lead the day-to-day safety, cleaning logistics, and mechanical efficiency of the school site. Key responsibilities include coordinating caretaker shift patterns, managing the building management system (BMS), tracking raw utility data, and running automated room comfort calibrations. You will also oversee the completion and logging of all statutory safety checks—including weekly fire alarm testing, legionella water safety cycles, emergency lighting diagnostics, and physical site security. You will act as a primary link with the School Business Manager, academic staff, and visiting sub-contractors, requiring absolute professionalism, clear communication, and meticulous documentation tracking at all times. Senior leaders actively support the premises team with a realistic operational budget, dedicated administrative assistance, and fully funded pathways for advanced professional certifications (such as IOSH, NEBOSH, or specialized structural safety courses). Experience and Qualifications Proven experience in a site manager, caretaker supervisor, or commercial building maintenance role (school experience is highly desirable) Deep operational knowledge of current health and safety parameters, COSHH guidelines, and statutory building compliance data logs Strong practical skills across general maintenance operations (such as minor carpentry, basic plumbing, and structural repairs) Good IT and data management capabilities, with confidence using digital facilities helpdesk software and spreadsheet profiles Application To be considered for this Site Manager position starting in September, please forward your CV as soon as possible.
