Go back North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust Specialist Community Dietitian The closing date is 05 July 2026 An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dietitian to join our dietetic team to expand their skills in the area of community dietetics. We require a motivated and enthusiastic dietitian with a passion for working in the community. Good clinical skills are required and knowledge of a wide variety of clinical conditions seen in the community. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work well as part of the dietetic team. The post is permanent, based in Whitehaven, and you will be part of a well‑established community dietetic team along with the wider dietetic department to ensure delivery of a high quality service across North Cumbria and professional support. The post includes delivering care to patients of all ages referred by a range of health care professionals and includes a caseload of enteral feeding patients with support from an enteral nurse specialist. Professional development is given a high priority and there are ongoing educational opportunities as well as practice supervision. The department trains student dietitians on P1, P2 and P3 placements from a number of universities in the North. IT and secretarial support is available. This post is ideal for either a Band 6 dietitian looking for a career change or we would also consider a Band 5 role for someone ready to take the next step in their career while enjoying the quality of life on offer in North Cumbria and the Lake District. Main duties of the job Provide a comprehensive clinical and educational community dietetic service within the North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (NCIC). Contribute to the development of the Nutrition & Dietetic service as a member of the Dietetic team. To act as a specialist source of advice and expertise, in the management of the nutritional wellbeing of patients, such as nutritional support, food allergies, gastrointestinal disorders, home enteral feeding, weight management. You will be part of a friendly, committed and supportive dietetic department of 22 dietitians across North Cumbria (acute, community and paediatrics) providing a quality service through evidence‑based practice. Job responsibilities Job description and essential criteria are provided in the attached documents. Key responsibilities include: * Deliver clinical dietetic assessments and interventions across a wide range of patients. * Provide educational support and training to patients, families and multidisciplinary teams. * Develop and review individual care plans, including enteral feeding regimes. * Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement projects. * Supervise student dietitians and trainee dietitians. * Maintain accurate clinical records and use IT systems for data input. Person Specification Knowledge * Sound knowledge of current dietary issues. * Evidence of Continuing Professional Development. * Knowledge of behavioural change and motivational interviewing. * Knowledge and application of NICE guidance in relation to the specialist area. Experience * Recent experience in general clinical dietetics. * Teaching and training other health professionals. * Working in multidisciplinary teams. * Undertaking and reporting on clinical audit. * Experience in community dietetics including home enteral feeding. * Paediatric experience. Qualifications * Recognised qualification leading to registration in Dietetics (BSc Degree or equivalent). * Current Health and Care Professions Council registration. * Post‑registration CPD evidence in general clinical dietetics. * Membership of a relevant Specialist Interest Group. * Supervisory skills to support student training. Skills and Aptitudes * Excellent oral and written communication skills. * Ability to use and develop a wide variety of approaches to delivering patient care and education. * Ability to identify, plan, deliver and evaluate training to other health professionals and groups. * Accurate keyboard skills for data input, word processing, Internet and dietary analysis. * Ability to manage own caseload. * Ability to work without supervision. * Ability to demonstrate compassionate values and behaviours needed for dignified care. Other requirements * Able to travel across North Cumbria. * Current membership of the British Dietetic Association.
