Job description

Role: Motorsport Development Worker

Location: National College for Motorsport – Silverstone

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £25,585 and £30,915 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 27 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, People’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time

About the role:

We are currently seeking a Motorsport Development Worker to join our Motorsport department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Motorsport Development Worker, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

  • Student Welfare, Engagement & Attendance - Provide targeted pastoral support to Motorsport students, helping them develop resilience, positive attitudes, employability skills, and readiness for their next steps, while driving improvements in attendance, punctuality, behaviour, and engagement.
  • Progress Monitoring & Intervention - Track and monitor student progress, welfare concerns, barriers to learning, and achievement using college systems, implementing early interventions for at-risk learners and maintaining accurate records of all support activities.
  • Safeguarding, Wellbeing & Multi-Agency Support - Act as a key point of contact for vulnerable students, promoting safeguarding and wellbeing, making appropriate referrals, and working closely with parents, carers, curriculum teams, Student Services, and external agencies to support learner success.
  • Work Placement & Progression Support - Support Motorsport students in securing work placements, ensuring opportunities are appropriately recorded and compliant, while assisting with progression planning, UCAS applications, personal statements, references, and destination tracking.
  • Collaboration, Student Experience & Professional Standards - Build effective relationships with students and staff, contribute to open days and college events, manage workload effectively, uphold the Student Code of Conduct, and ensure all activities align with safeguarding, EDI, health & safety, and Bedford College Group values.

About you:

  • Qualifications, Education & Industry Knowledge - GCSE English and Maths (Grade A-C/Level 2 equivalent), a good general education, and willingness to achieve safeguarding, Mental Health First Aid, and teaching qualifications. Knowledge of Equality, Diversity & Inclusion, safeguarding practices, confidentiality requirements, and the Motorsport industry.
  • Student Support, Guidance & Welfare Experience - Experience working in a student support, education, careers guidance, mentoring, or related environment, with the ability to support young people and vulnerable learners, understand barriers to achievement, and promote positive outcomes, progression, and wellbeing.
  • Communication, Relationship Building & Learner Engagement - Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills, with the ability to build positive professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, employers, and external agencies while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Organisation, IT & Problem-Solving Skills - Good organisational, project management, prioritisation, analytical, decision-making, and IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications, with the ability to manage competing priorities, maintain accurate records, meet deadlines, and handle sensitive information confidentially.
  • Professionalism, Safeguarding & Personal Effectiveness - Student-focused, adaptable, and resilient, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively, contribute to an aspirational learning culture, uphold safeguarding, equality, diversity, and health & safety requirements, and maintain high professional standards.
  • Flexibility & Commitment to Development - Commitment to continuous professional development, willingness to travel between campuses and race team locations, undertake health and safety checks, and adapt working hours to meet operational and student support needs.

The Bedford College Group was formed in 2017 following the merger of Bedford College and Tresham College and is now the largest provider of education in the South East Midlands, with over 15,000 students passing through our doors each year.
