Job description
Sleep Healthcare Science Associate Practitioner – CPAP Team Closing date: 03 August 2026 An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Assistant CPAP Practitioner to join our Sleep, CPAP and Respiratory Physiology Team. This position would ideally suit an individual with a caring and positive attitude who strives to make the patient feel valued, while upholding the Trust values of Compassion, Excellence and Collaboration. With our patient cohort currently in the region of over 25,000, and ever expanding we are looking for an individual who embraces innovation, with the motivation and passion to work both autonomously and within our team providing care, support and management for patients with Sleep Disordered Breathing. Main duties of the job Our Practitioners are predominantly based in the outpatient department and CPAP Hub at Royal Papworth Hospital and travel independently across several locations in the East Anglia region to support outreach clinics when necessary. We work collaboratively with the Sleep Laboratory and Respiratory Physiology Department, and the successful applicant will be expected to undertake training and qualifications in each. Health education and promotion plays a significant part in our role. The Team initiates on a weekly basis 75 new patients on treatment; maintains our telephone and e‑mail support services; delivers review clinics for patients both virtually and on a face‑to‑face basis. As someone with excellent communication skills you will be expected to work both alongside members of our team and autonomously, delivering exceptional care to our CPAP patients with professionalism and compassion. We perform the most heart and/or lung transplants in the UK and carried out the UKs first successful heart transplant in 1979. It also offers emergency heart attack treatment, sleep centre care and is one of just five centres nationally for those in severe respiratory failure. Qualifications * Diploma, NVQ level 3 or equivalent appropriate qualification plus relevant experience to diploma level * Willingness to undertake a level 4 apprenticeship in sleep science * Care certificate, or willingness to undertake * Level 2 or above sleep science course or equivalent * ARTP sleep course(s) * SCST ECG course or willingness to undertake * ARTP CPAP certificate Experience * Experience of working with patients or clients and respect of patient confidentiality and dignity * An understanding of a clinical / hospital environment * Basic IT skills including some knowledge of Microsoft office package applications * Experience of using different IT systems essential for clinic management * This role requires strong interpersonal skills, as there may be challenges in communication and understanding * Ability to deal with non‑routine queries e.g. problem solving and patient queries, knowing when to refer to a Manager * Experience working within a sleep and/or respiratory service Additional Criteria * Please provide evidence of your commitment to uphold the Trusts values: Compassion, Excellence, Collaboration * Methodical and organised worker with good manual dexterity and attention to detail * Flexibility with working hours and availability to work night shifts * Communication skills e.g. helping a nervous patient feel at ease, liaising with medical staff, other nursing and health professional as required * Demonstrate due diligence when using and working in the vicinity of complex equipment * Ability to work night shift on rota * Ability to undertake manual handling tasks * Willingness to work in close proximity to patients Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
