This varied and rewarding role involves investigating pest activity, delivering pest control treatments, being part of drainage investigations, and providing expert advice to residents, businesses and partners across the city. Working both independently and as part of a professional team, you will tackle a wide range of pest and drainage issues, undertake inspections and proofing work, operate specialist equipment, and help ensure the safety and wellbeing of our communities. No two days are the same, making this an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys problem-solving, hands-on work and working outdoors. We are looking for someone with excellent customer service skills, a practical approach, and a commitment to delivering high quality services. Pest control experience is desirable but not essential, and applicants must hold a full driving licence and be willing to work towards professional pest management qualifications if not already held. ROLE AND PURPOSE To work within a professional team of officers involved in discharging the Council’s statutory duties and commitments in relation to pest control and drainage. To participate in the provision of highly interactive client focused responses to requests for service. To enable them to carry out the duties of the post, the post holder will be required to hold a full driving license to enable them to drive a council van.PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: 1. To achieve the objectives and targets for the Section and the aims and objectives of the Department and Council by working effectively as a member of a team and on his/her own.2. To investigate and identify the type and source of pest problems in domestic, commercial, industrial and public premises and to take the necessary appropriate action for the eradication of pests using pesticides, traps etc., and various types of equipment.3. To undertake planned survey work and baiting of potential hazard areas in connection with the eradication of insect or rodent pests either at the request of members of the public or as a routine public health measure.4. To undertake pest control proofing work to prevent the access to buildings of various pests including birds, squirrels, mice, rats, ants, etc.5. To ensure the safe and hygienic removal and disposal of poisons and carcasses in accordance with the Department’s health and safety requirements.6. To provide a high level of commitment to the health and safety of self, other staff, members of the public and non-target animals (pets etc) and to provide a safe environment for the mixing, usage and storage of toxic chemicals in accordance with the Department’s health and safety procedures.7. To provide an efficient and effective service for the clearance of obstructed drains, gullies, water closets etc., by plunging and / or rodding and the investigation and testing of defective drainage systems using dyes, smoke tests and CCTV systems.8. To ensure that allocated vehicles and equipment are regularly checked and are in good working order and that stores are maintained.9. To prepare reports and detailed records regarding toxic chemicals, materials used and the safety and security of pesticides. To ensure the customer is fully aware of what materials have been used, where they have been used, and why they have been used and to keep the customer fully informed as to any changes etc.10.
