SEND Teacher
Location: Sunderland
Salary: £150 - £220 per day (depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Day-to-day / Long Term, Full-time / Part-time

Are you a dedicated, compassionate, and skilled teacher with a passion for supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)?

GSL Education Newcastle are seeking enthusiastic SEND Teachers to work in schools across Sunderland, supporting students with a range of additional needs and helping them achieve their full potential in a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.

The successful SEND Teacher will work closely with students who have a variety of SEND needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and other additional learning requirements. Working alongside support staff, SENCOs, parents, and external agencies, you will deliver tailored learning experiences that encourage academic progress, independence, and personal development.

Responsibilities of a SEND Teacher:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons that meet the individual needs of students with SEND.
  • Adapt teaching strategies, resources, and learning activities to ensure accessibility and inclusion.
  • Create a positive, supportive, and safe learning environment where all students can thrive.
  • Develop and implement personalised learning plans and contribute to Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) where appropriate.
  • Monitor, assess, and track student progress, providing regular feedback to students, parents, and school staff.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, SENCOs, therapists, and other professionals to support student outcomes.
  • Support students' social, emotional, and behavioural development alongside their academic achievement.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school and support inclusive educational practices.

Requirements of a SEND Teacher:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of SEND practices, inclusive teaching strategies, and differentiated learning.
  • Knowledge of EHCPs and experience supporting students with a range of additional needs.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and classroom management skills.
  • Patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach to teaching and learning.
  • An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection, and successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks, including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service or completing a new application.

As an ethical, independent recruitment agency, GSL Education are committed to providing quality teaching and support staff across the UK.
