Job description
Maintenance Manager - London

About The Groucho Club

The Groucho exists to keep Soho's artistic, liberal spirit burning bright, and to champion London's role as a creative powerhouse on the world stage. A joyful, generous and welcoming space for ideas, creative life and the occasional late night.

Born in 1985 as the antidote to the cloistered gentlemen's clubs of London's Mayfair, The Groucho Club was founded on a radical idea: that good company is the kind chosen by ideas rather than status, that emerging voices belong in the same room as established ones, and that culture is made through conversation, collision and curiosity.

Forty years on, that belief still drives everything we do. We exist to facilitate the conversations that shape culture now and next, to back the people making it, and to keep Soho generous, welcoming and alive to creative possibility. We host, we don't serve.

Members and guests are people we know, not names on a list.

Maintenance Manager

We are looking for an experienced, highly organised and proactive Maintenance Manager to lead the maintenance function across The Groucho Club.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring our iconic Soho property remains safe, compliant, efficiently operated and maintained to the highest possible standard. You will oversee planned and reactive maintenance, manage contractors and suppliers, support the maintenance team, and play a key role in protecting the member experience through excellent facilities management.

This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on maintenance professional who thrives in a fast-paced hospitality environment and takes pride in delivering exceptional standards across a unique and historic building.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leading the maintenance operation across all areas of the Club, ensuring the property is safe, compliant and exceptionally maintained.
  • Managing planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programmes and coordinating reactive maintenance activities.
  • Overseeing maintenance projects from planning through to completion, ensuring work is delivered on time, within budget and to a high standard.
  • Managing and supervising external contractors, suppliers and service providers.
  • Supporting the maintenance team with hands-on repairs when required, including minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, decorating and general maintenance work.
  • Conducting regular inspections and audits of the building, facilities and equipment, ensuring any issues are promptly addressed.
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records, compliance documentation and work schedules through the Club's maintenance management systems.
  • Managing stock levels, spare parts and consumables to minimise equipment downtime.
  • Obtaining quotations, managing expenditure and supporting budget control initiatives.
  • Reviewing maintenance costs and identifying opportunities for efficiencies and savings.
  • Responding to operational issues and emergencies when required.
  • Working closely with all departments to ensure maintenance activities are effectively communicated and maintain excellent standards throughout the Club.

What Makes You a Great Fit

  • Previous experience in a Maintenance Manager, Facilities Manager or similar leadership role within hospitality, hotels, private members' clubs or complex commercial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of building services, maintenance systems and property operations.
  • Experience managing contractors, maintenance projects and planned preventative maintenance programmes.
  • Good understanding of health, safety and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Financial awareness, including experience managing budgets, quotations and expenditure.
  • Confident using maintenance management systems, work management apps and reporting tools.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A proactive, hands-on leader who takes pride in delivering high standards.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change quickly.
  • Professional, reliable and accountable, with a strong sense of ownership.
  • Flexible and willing to support operational requirements, including occasional out-of-hours emergencies.

Why You'll Love It Here

  • Competitive salary.
  • 30 days holiday including bank holidays, pro-rata.
  • Wagestream to support your financial wellbeing.
  • Nutritious meals prepared by our team.
  • Pension scheme.
  • Employee Assistance Programme with Hospitality Action.
  • And all the other things that get us excited, including staff parties, food and drink tastings, unique events, and the opportunity to work alongside London's most creative membership community.

Equal Opportunities

The Groucho Club is an equal opportunity employer. All aspects of employment including the decision to hire, promote, discipline, or discharge, will be based on merit, competence, performance, and business needs. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, religion, marital status, age, national origin, ancestry, physical or mental disability, medical condition, pregnancy, genetic information, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression.
