Job description

As one of the largest teams of Chartered Surveyors in the property sector, incorporating 100+ surveyors across regional offices in the UK, the Building Surveying team in Cambridge has a great opportunity for an experienced Chartered Building Surveyor. The Building Surveying team works alongside established disciplines of Project Management and Building Services Engineering, providing trusted, tailored services to notable local clients.

This role is for a Building Surveyor who is a Chartered Member of the RICS and offers the chance to be part of an ambitious team aligned with the company’s growth strategy. You will deliver all aspects of professional and project-related Building Surveying services across a wide range of sectors including education, office, retail, industrial, and residential.

You will be expected to deliver a full spectrum of Building Surveying services such as schedules of condition, dilapidations, contract administration, defect diagnosis, pre-acquisition and technical due diligence surveys, and reinstatement cost assessments.

You will need to be personable, presentable and have excellent communication skills in this client-facing role. The ability to produce high-quality documentation to company standards and manage multiple projects efficiently is essential.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical knowledge and experience across core Building Surveying competencies, with a proven track record of delivering professional services independently.

What you need to do to be effective in this role

  • Represent the company professionally and promote Ridge and Partners by engaging with clients and attending networking events.
  • Deliver projects and professional services on time, with an appreciation for profitability and commerciality.
  • Maintain a high level of attention to detail and pride in the quality of outputs.
  • Ability to produce clear, concise and accurate technical reports and specifications.
  • Prioritise tasks effectively and adjust as needed.
  • Communicate clearly and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Ability to plan, manage, and coordinate multi-disciplinary instructions, acting as lead consultant to ensure seamless collaboration between stakeholders and successful project delivery.
  • Strong ability to build and maintain long-term client relationships, ensuring repeat business and client satisfaction.

The skills and experience you need to have for this role

  • Chartered Member of the RICS (MRICS or FRICS).
  • Significant experience in a Building Surveying role, ideally across multiple sectors.
  • Strong technical knowledge of building pathology, construction technology, contract administration, design and specification, inspection, and legal/regulatory compliance.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Excellent IT skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, AutoCAD, NBS, and other relevant software).
  • Experience in mentoring junior surveyors and fostering professional development.
