Summary
We are seeking a dedicated
Technical Support Officer (Building Control) to join our dynamic
Local Authority Building Control Team. This role is ideal for an experienced administrator or technical support professional with a background in Building Control, Planning, Property, Construction, or Local Authority. As the first point of contact for Building Control enquiries, you will facilitate the efficient processing of Building Regulation applications, maintain precise records, and provide essential administrative support to Building Control Surveyors. Your contribution will ensure that customers receive a professional and responsive service, all while adhering to legislative and regulatory frameworks.
Responsibilities
- Building Control Administration
- Efficiently process Building Regulation applications.
- Maintain accurate Building Control records and databases.
- Assist Building Control Surveyors with administrative and technical tasks.
- Process application documentation in line with procedures and legislation.
- Ensure customer and application records are accurate and current.
- Customer Service & Enquiries
- Serve as the first point of contact for Building Control enquiries.
- Respond to customer enquiries professionally and efficiently.
- Assess enquiries and take appropriate action.
- Escalate complex issues to Building Control Surveyors or the Building Control Manager as needed.
- Deliver a positive customer experience throughout the application process.
- Information Management
- Maintain and update customer records and information systems.
- Ensure compliance with Data Protection legislation.
- Verify and validate information before processing.
- Manage electronic and manual records accurately.
- Technical Support
- Support Building Control Officers with application administration and case management.
- Assist with obtaining and processing reports and technical information.
- Provide background information to support Building Control decision-making.
- Assist in preparing documentation and correspondence.
- Risk & Compliance
- Identify potential risks and escalate issues appropriately.
- Support service delivery in accordance with legislation, policy, and professional standards.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Assist in identifying potential fraud or irregularities.
- Service Improvement
- Support continuous improvement of Building Control processes and procedures.
- Identify more efficient ways of working.
- Support knowledge sharing and best practices across the service.
- Contribute to developing a customer-focused service.
- Team Support
- Collaborate with Building Control Surveyors and colleagues across the Council.
- Assist with workload management and service priorities.
- Provide support for escalated service issues as required.
- Contribute positively to team objectives and performance standards.
Requirements
Requirements:- Essential
- Experience in Building Control, Planning, Local Authority, Construction, Property, or Technical Administration.
- Good understanding of Building Control functions and associated legislation.
- Strong administrative and customer service experience.
- Experience processing applications, records, reports, or technical documentation.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to manage enquiries and identify when escalation is required.
- Proven ability to follow procedures and workflows accurately.
- Strong IT skills with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent experience).
- Desirable
- Previous Local Authority experience.
- Experience supporting Building Control or Planning teams.
- Knowledge of Building Regulations and associated legislation.
- Experience responding to information requests and maintaining technical records.
- Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
