Education Outreach & Inclusion Practitioner

Make a Lasting Difference to Young People's Lives

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and compassionate professional to join an established outreach and inclusion team supporting pupils in various parts of North and Mid Essex.

This is a rewarding role for someone who believes every young person deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of the challenges they face. Working across a network of partner schools, you will support pupils who are at risk of exclusion or experiencing barriers to education, helping them re-engage with learning and achieve positive outcomes.

No two days are the same. You'll build trusted relationships with pupils, families and school staff while delivering tailored interventions that promote inclusion, emotional wellbeing and educational engagement.

The Role

You will:

  • Deliver one-to-one and small-group interventions for secondary-aged pupils.

  • Support young people who are at risk of permanent exclusion, poor attendance or social and emotional disadvantage.

  • Work collaboratively with school staff, families and external professionals to improve outcomes.

  • Promote positive behaviour, resilience and emotional wellbeing through trauma-informed approaches.

  • Help develop bespoke intervention programmes tailored to individual needs.

  • Build strong relationships with pupils, encouraging confidence, engagement and personal development.

  • Maintain accurate records, reports and intervention plans.

  • Attend meetings with schools, parents and multi-agency professionals where required.

  • Travel regularly between partner schools across North and Mid Essex.

About You

We're looking for someone who is passionate about supporting young people and has experience of working with children or adolescents facing barriers to education.

You'll ideally have experience in roles such as:

  • Pastoral Support Worker

  • Behaviour Mentor

  • Inclusion Support Worker

  • Learning Mentor

  • Family Support Worker

  • Youth Worker

  • Alternative Provision Practitioner

  • SEMH Teaching Assistant

  • Student Support Worker

  • Education or Early Help Support

You will also have:

  • Experience supporting young people with SEMH, SEND, behavioural or social needs.

  • An understanding of trauma-informed practice or a willingness to work within this approach.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

  • The ability to work independently while managing a varied caseload.

  • Confidence working collaboratively with schools, families and external agencies.

  • Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.

  • A proactive, resilient and adaptable approach.

Essential Requirements
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) including English and Maths.

  • Experience working with children or young people in education, youth work, social care or a related setting.

  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Access to your own vehicle with business-use insurance.

  • Willingness to travel throughout North and Mid Essex on a daily basis.

Desirable
  • Experience of delivering interventions.

  • Knowledge of Alternative Provision, SEND or inclusion services.

  • Trauma-informed training or qualifications.

  • Experience working within multi-agency teams.

  • Relevant qualifications in education, youth work, social care or child development.

What You'll Receive
  • Competitive salary

  • The chance to work as part of a supportive and experienced outreach team.

  • Ongoing professional development and training.

  • A varied, rewarding role where you can make a genuine difference to young people's lives.

  • The opportunity to support local schools and positively influence educational outcomes.
