Job summary
The Outreach Psychotherapist is part of a multi-disciplinary team approach to support the health and wellbeing of people rough sleeping or at risk of homelessness in Peterborough. This role will work directly with a GP specialising in Mental Health and a Service Lead who will provide management and admin support to the team, and will be based within Peterborough City.

The role will provide psychotherapeutic interventions to people rough sleeping or at risk of homelessness who have been referred to the service. Clients referred to the service will be rough sleepers with moderate mental health difficulties who also have problematic and interrelated health and social care needs, including substance misuse. These interventions could be delivered in a variety of settings including on the street on an outreach shift or attending a clients accommodation via telephone or virtual depending on the needs of the client as required.

This team is part of an integrated model of care for Rough Sleepers including housing, substance misuse and mental health outreach workers.

The Outreach Psychotherapist will provide partner outreach workers such as housing support workers and substance misuse staff with regular training from the psychotherapist to help them understand the psychological.

Main duties of the job
Overview of Role

  • To provide therapeutic interventions for clients who are homeless or vulnerably housed and who have complex needs
  • Provide clients with trauma-informed approaches, including psychological and therapeutic support
  • To hold a caseload of clients, working flexibly to meet their needs
  • Actively promote the service and trauma informed practices to external agencies and organisations and to attend Multiple Disciplinary Team Meetings (MDTs) for clients on the psychotherapy caseload
  • Work in partnership with other agencies and organisations involved in supporting clients to stabilise their mental health and be supported to access and remain in accommodation
  • Maintain constructive relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders including, GP surgeries and other key stakeholders and partner organisations
  • Attend and actively participate in team, service and wider multi-disciplinary team meetings as required
  • Create and maintain documentation as required for the role
  • Supporting the service by providing strong governance processes through maintaining electronic files and storing associated documents within these

  • Provide group training and one to one advice and guidance to housing, substance misuses and mental health outreach teams as part of a multi-disciplinary approach
  • Provide monthly audit data to the GPN team as evidence of professional supervision

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

  • 1. UK recognised Psychotherapy or Counselling qualification
  • 2. BACP and/or UKCP accredited
  • 3. Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of UKCP/BACP Code of Ethics.


Desirable

  • 1. Masters in counselling or Psychotherapy
  • 2. Certificate or diploma in trauma therapy


Experience
Essential

  • 1. Demonstrable experience as a counsellor or psychotherapist working with trauma.
  • 2. Expertise in prevailing evidence-based protocols.
  • 3. Proven track record of engaging with vulnerable adults with complex needs.
  • 4. Capacity to work flexibly in both formal and informal settings to provide services tailored to individuals particular needs.
  • 5. Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for client's care and treatment, both as care co-ordinator and within the context of a multi-agency care plan.
  • 6. Experience of motivating, empowering, and supporting people to achieve their goals.
  • 7. Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision.


Knowledge
Essential

  • 1. Ability to assess the needs of the clients and provide appropriate service.
  • 2. Ability to share expertise within the parameters of confidentiality.
  • 3. Ability to manage and respond to demand pressures of the service.
  • 4. Ability to lead and work as a team member.
  • 5. Good IT skills and experience of using a database and accurately able to enter sensitive data.
  • 6. Ability to promote the service, encouraging and influencing the use of the psychotherapy service.

  • 13. The post-holder is required to travel independently across the county when required, to meet staff and attend meetings etc. a valid driving licence and own car is a must.
