Behaviour Management Teaching Assistant

Chorley Full-Time | Monday to Friday Start Date: September 2026 Competitive Salary (dependent on experience)

Are you passionate about making a difference to young people's lives?

We are currently recruiting for a Behaviour Management Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in Chorley from September. This is a full-time role supporting pupils who require additional guidance, structure, and emotional support to help them succeed both academically and personally.

This position would particularly suit candidates from an ex-Forces background, although applicants from care, youth work, support work, residential care, or similar settings are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Role

As a Behaviour Management Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support students with SEMH needs and challenging behaviours both in and out of the classroom.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils and act as a positive role model.
  • Help students regulate their emotions and develop coping strategies.
  • Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to implement behaviour support plans.
  • Encourage engagement, attendance, and participation in learning.
  • Promote a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for individuals who:

  • Have experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable adults in a behavioural, care, support, or educational setting.
  • Possess strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
  • Are resilient, patient, and able to remain calm under pressure.
  • Have a genuine passion for supporting young people with additional needs.
  • Can build trusting relationships while maintaining clear boundaries.
  • Hold a full driving licence (desirable but not essential).

Ex-Forces Candidates Welcome

Candidates from the Armed Forces often bring valuable skills including:

  • Leadership and mentoring experience.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Resilience and adaptability.
  • The ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations.
  • Experience working with diverse individuals and supporting personal development.

What We Offer

  • Full-time, long-term opportunity with the potential to become permanent.
  • Supportive and welcoming school environment.
  • Ongoing training and professional development.
  • The chance to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people.

If you have experience in care, behaviour support, youth work, residential care, mentoring, the Armed Forces, or similar roles, and are looking for a rewarding opportunity within education, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply today to secure your place for a September start.
