Job description
Term Time Only + INSET + 10 Additional Days (including Key Stage 5 and Key Stage 4 results days in August) Headteacher Welcome Thank you for your interest in joining Whalley Range High School, a proud all-girls community close to the heart of Manchester. We are a school serving young women, removing barriers to learning, promoting equality and inclusion, and working in partnership with our community to ensure every student can thrive. As Headteacher, my connection to Whalley Range is both professional and personal. I began my career here as an early career teacher, and it has been a privilege to grow alongside this community. Our purpose is to empower young women to realise their potential, becoming powerful agents of change, strengthening their communities and contributing positively to society. As part of the Greater Manchester Education Trust, our values of Excellence, Care and Respect guide every interaction and decision. These values reflect our belief that exceptional education must go hand‑in‑hand with compassion, equity and a deep respect for the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our students. We serve a richly diverse community, with over half of our students eligible for pupil premium. This shapes our mission and strengthens our resolve. We work relentlessly to remove structural barriers, close gaps, and ensure that every student—regardless of their starting point—has access to the highest standard of teaching, tailored support and inspiring opportunities. Our commitment to equality and empowerment is reflected in the consistently strong outcomes our students achieve. Year after year, they progress confidently into further study, a testament to the dedication of our staff, the ambition of our young women and our shared belief that everyone deserves opportunity. If you are passionate about empowering young women, committed to inclusion and equality, and motivated by the chance to make a meaningful difference to the community we serve, then Whalley Range High School is a place where you will thrive. Here, you will join a dedicated, caring and forward‑thinking team who work every day to transform lives—and who will support you in your own professional growth. About the Role This Marketing & Communications Officer role is central to how the school communicates with parents, students, staff and the wider community. You’ll lead on producing engaging, high‑quality content across newsletters, social media, the website and printed publications, ensuring everything reflects the school’s values and celebrates the achievements of students and staff. The role blends creativity with organisation: designing promotional materials, coordinating photography, gathering stories from across the school and supporting key events such as open evenings, awards evenings and results days. Working collaboratively with colleagues and external partners, you’ll help shape the school’s public profile by producing displays, event resources and digital content that showcase the life of the school. You’ll also support brand consistency, monitor engagement, ensure compliance with safeguarding and GDPR requirements, and contribute to effective management of the school’s marketing budget. About You You’ll bring strong experience in communications, marketing, media or public relations, with the ability to produce polished digital and print content from concept to completion. Confident using Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, MS Office and modern digital/AI communication tools, you can adapt tone and style for different audiences and communicate clearly across a range of formats. Excellent organisation, attention to detail and the ability to work calmly under pressure are essential. You’ll be a positive, collaborative team member who builds strong relationships across the school and with external stakeholders. Experience in a school setting, photography or video editing, and an understanding of safeguarding and GDPR would be beneficial. Above all, you’ll be committed to promoting the achievements, values and ethos of the school. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff to share this commitment. Full details about the role and the qualifications, experience, and attributes required can be found in the attached Job Description and Person Specification. Why Join Us? “Staff appreciate how leaders and governors are developing ways to protect them from excessive workload.” “Staff expect high standards of conduct. Pupils are well behaved in lessons and around the school site.” A Trust for Every Child and Every Colleague We believe that great futures are built by great people. Colleagues who work in our schools will experience the same focus on care and guidance, opportunity and challenge, so that they can deliver an exceptional education to our young people. They will become the very best practitioners through bespoke support and opportunities to learn professionally, to collaborate, to lead innovation and to advance their career with us. We strive for excellence in everything we do. At GMET, every role, from teaching to support, is valued. You’ll be supported and empowered to grow within a trust where our core values guide our work with learners, colleagues, families, and the wider community. Benefits * A warm, inclusive, and supportive school culture * High expectations for all learners and staff * A strong focus on wellbeing and professional development * Opportunities to innovate and collaborate across the trust * A commitment to equity, diversity, and accessibility * Tailored CPD and coaching * Trust-wide networks and learning communities * Leadership development pathways * Access to wellbeing resources and flexible working options Employment Conditions We are committed to safeguarding, child protection and promoting the wellbeing of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment. All roles are subject to: * Enhanced DBS checks * Reference and identity verification * Compliance with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applicants from all backgrounds. If you require any adjustments during the recruitment process, please let us know. J-18808-Ljbffr
