Job description
The Hinkler is a spacious community pub in the Thornhill area of Southampton, with real potential to become a welcoming hub at the heart of local life. With two separate trading spaces — a main bar used daily by customers and a bookable function room for celebrations, parties and community events — there’s a fantastic opportunity for the right operator to build strong local connections and create a pub that brings people together. Even more exciting, there is planned investment for the pub in April 2027 to transform The Hinkler into Marston’s Grandstand sports format, creating a brilliant opportunity to grow its appeal as a vibrant, community-led sports pub. From family-friendly functions and local group meet-ups to partnerships with community organisations and public services, The Hinkler is ready for someone with fresh ideas and the drive to make a lasting impact. Currently operating as a 100% wet-led pub and averaging around £4,000 per week in sales, The Hinkler offers a great turnaround opportunity for an experienced pub operator. By making better use of the function space and introducing daytime activity such as coffee mornings, craft sessions, children’s events or local community groups, there is clear scope to grow trade and broaden the customer base. We’re looking for a confident, community-minded operator with strong local knowledge, experience of developing wet-led pubs, and the ability to build a safe, welcoming and successful business that local people are proud to support.

What’s in it for you?

  • 20% share of weekly wet sales, excluding VAT.
  • Keep 100% of the food sales.
  • Low ingoing costs, starting with just a £5,000 deposit and £360 legal cost. (*deposits can vary dependant on business – ask us for more details*)
  • Accommodation included with most bills covered, except the council tax & TV License.
