Job description

South West based charitable housing association BCHA was founded over 50 years ago with a continuing mission to meet housing need and end homelessness. We aim to achieve this through the building and provision of affordable and secure homes, and by supporting individuals to take control and lead independent, fulfilled lives. Whether we are developing sites or supporting people with housing, learning or living skills, we believe in equality, the importance of every individual and the right to be valued and treated with dignity and respect. Our doors are open to everyone.

We need a Night Worker to provide different levels of practical support to customers who are experiencing mental health and need our support. As a Night Worker you will carry out various tasks during your shift ranging from time spent listening to people who need to talk, doing regular welfare checks and carrying out regular inspections to ensure the health, safety and security of the building. You will be working alongside a colleague on a night shift, there is no lone working.

We can offer you the opportunity to:

  • achieve real job satisfaction in a rewarding and challenging role;
  • receive full training and support to develop your skills & experience;
  • work with homeless people and make a difference;
  • find real value in the work you do, working closely with others;
  • genuinely help customers who need a safe and secure place to live;
  • learn about trauma informed approaches, managing mental health, substance misuse and accommodation services;

Please come and work with us if:

  • you have a positive can do attitude to achieve best outcomes;
  • you want to learn and develop your understanding of ‘homelessness’;
  • you have similar ‘lived experience’ and now want to give back to others;
  • you are already a night worker but want or need a change of environment;
  • you are a student needing some direct work experience to support your learning;
  • you have completed a college course and are looking to start your career;
  • you are a volunteer or relief worker looking to step into full time permanent work

You can add real value as part of a team of professionals who build positive, trusting and respectful relationships with our customers who are preparing to move forward towards independence.

BCHA Safer Recruitment: Safeguarding children and adults is our first priority and we will ensure we follow safer recruitment procedures.

As an employer, we will do everything possible to prevent unsuitable people obtaining employment with BCHA. Our overall aim is to ‘deter unsuitable applicants from applying for roles with children and adults, and we will ensure that all candidates are treated fairly, consistently and in compliance with current legislation.

BCHA is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of people, and expects all employees and volunteers to share this commitment.

Closing date: August 10th
