Some teaching roles changes outcomes. This one changes lives.

Supply Desk is working closely with a highly regarded specialist school in Maidenhead to recruit an exceptional PMLD Teacher who is passionate about helping children and young people with complex needs reach their full potential. Whether you are seeking a full-time or part-time position, this is a fantastic opportunity to join a nurturing and forward-thinking setting where every achievement is celebrated and every pupil is valued as an individual.

The school supports pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and complex physical, sensory, and medical needs. As part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team, you will play a pivotal role in creating meaningful learning experiences that develop communication, independence, confidence, and life skills.

This is the ideal role for a creative and compassionate educator who thrives in a specialist environment and believes that every pupil deserves the opportunity to succeed.

The Role

As a Specialist PMLD Teacher, you will deliver highly personalised learning programmes designed around the individual needs and strengths of each pupil. Using sensory-led teaching approaches, communication strategies, and innovative learning experiences, you will support students in achieving important developmental milestones while fostering engagement and wellbeing.

Working collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, families, and medical professionals, you will ensure pupils receive a holistic educational experience that supports both learning and personal development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and highly differentiated lessons tailored to individual learning needs.
  • Use sensory-based and experiential learning approaches to maximise pupil engagement.
  • Plan and review personalised learning pathways and contribute to EHCP targets.
  • Support pupils with complex medical, physical, and communication needs.
  • Implement communication strategies including Makaton, PECS, AAC, and Intensive Interaction.
  • Track progress through observation and assessment of small-step achievements.
  • Create a calm, safe, and stimulating learning environment where pupils can flourish.
  • Work closely with support staff to ensure exceptional levels of care and learning support.
  • Build strong partnerships with parents, carers, therapists, and external agencies.
  • Promote independence, wellbeing, confidence, and positive outcomes for every learner.

What We're Looking For

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is desirable, although experienced SEN practitioners will also be considered.
  • Previous experience supporting pupils with PMLD, SLD, ASD, or other complex additional needs.
  • Strong understanding of personalised learning and inclusive teaching practices.
  • A patient, nurturing, and adaptable approach to education.
  • Confidence supporting pupils with physical, medical, and sensory needs.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Availability to work part-time or full-time in the Maidenhead area.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working within a specialist school or resource provision.
  • Training or experience in Makaton, PECS, AAC, or sensory learning approaches.
  • Knowledge of moving and handling procedures.
  • Experience working alongside Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and Physiotherapists.
  • Team Teach or positive behaviour support training.

Why Join This School?

  • Join a welcoming and highly skilled specialist education team.
  • Make a genuine and lasting difference to the lives of pupils with complex needs.
  • Access specialist SEND training and ongoing professional development.
  • Work within a supportive environment that prioritises staff wellbeing.
  • Opportunity to develop your expertise within a respected specialist setting.
  • Be part of a school where every small step forward is recognised and celebrated.
